ASDC and Hero MotoCorp: new program on skill development

The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) and Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters, have joined hands to develop a comprehensive two-wheeler short term training course – Two-Wheeler Preventive Maintenance & Repair.

Utilising the content provided by Hero MotoCorp, ASDC will deliver a variety of learning modules and certifications in automotive servicing. Through this program, ASDC will also enhance its capacity and capabilities in curriculum building, along with faculty training, to meet global standards.

The course has been approved by the apex regulator National Council of Vocational Education &
Training (NCVET) in the apprenticeship portal. Two-Wheeler Preventive Maintenance & Repair
program has been designed for 63 days of theory and practicals at the approved Skill Development Center. This will be followed by 14 days of ‘On the Job Training’ at authorised two-wheeler service centres.

This is a pioneering initiative taken by Hero MotoCorp, along with ASDC, to develop customised courses including BS-VI technology and other new features of the two-wheeler Industry.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr Vinod Agarwal, President of ASDC said, “We are extremely
happy to partner with Hero MotoCorp, as it will allow us to reach a large number of youths, who can be skilled and subsequently gainfully employed in the industry. Hero MotoCorp partnership with ASDC will further enhance the program, develop new training course curriculums and certification of trainers and students for the future, in consultation with experts from the automotive industry and from academia. It is also important that the younger generation in the country put in their hearts the jobs that they are performing in addition to their hands and minds. This alone will bring in the sense of pride in what they are doing, leading to a high-quality performance which is critical in leading the country to a leadership position in the world of manufacturing”.

Naveen Chauhan, Head of Sales and After Sales, Hero MotoCorp said “As the market leader and a responsible corporate, Hero MotoCorp has been continuously introducing the latest technologies in the industry and fostering a spirit of innovation amongst the youth of the country. With the current technological advancements in the automotive sector, new-age vehicles are more advanced, connected, and smart. Two-Wheeler Preventive Maintenance & Repair program will enable students and professionals to develop relevant skills on these new technologies and become self-reliant, thereby empowering them for a brighter future. The program will focus on new sets of skills and knowledge and lead to proficiency upgrading across the entire value chain.”

Both ASDC and Hero MotoCorp will focus on bridging the supply gap of skilled workers in the
automotive industry and help in the fulfilment of manpower requirements across the country. Then the program will further enable all the candidates to develop relevant skills on futuristic vehicles too (EV/HEV) and become self-reliant, thereby, empowering the youth for a brighter future and at the same time fulfilling the broader vision of Skill India.
