Chandigarh kicks off national printmaking workshop
A national workshop dedicated to printmaking has commenced in the city, gathering 75 distinguished and emerging printmakers from various corners of the country. Organized by the Central Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi (CLKA), and partnered with the Government College of Art in Sector 10, Chandigarh, this event is an exploration of artistic expression on paper.
The inaugural ceremony unfolded at the auditorium of the Government College of Art.
Spanning two locations, the event unfolds with 53 printmakers engaged in creative endeavors at the graphics department of the Government College of Art, while another 22 work within the CLKA Open Hand Studio at the Le Corbusier Centre, Sector 19, Chandigarh. This endeavor coincides with the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, offering a captivating voyage through diverse creative realms. It echoes the essence of India’s cultural richness and celebrates the thriving artistic spirit within the nation, as highlighted by Bheem Malhotra, Chairperson of CLKA.
Participating printmakers encompass 24 from Chandigarh and 51 from beyond. The workshop will run until August 12, from 10 am to 6 pm.
Distinguished printmakers lending their expertise to the workshop include Ramendranath Kastha, Vilas Shinde, Vijay Bagodi, Walter D’Souza, Ajit Seal, Subroto Mondal, Sridhar Murthy, Sunil Lal, Chhipa Sudhakar, Murali Das PV, Pritam Deokari, Rakesh Bani, Mahesh Prajapati, Ananda Moy Banerjee, and Chippa Sudhakar.
Additionally, faculty members of the printmaking department of the Government College of Art, alongside printmakers from the tricity area, actively participate. The workshop seeks to kindle printmakers’ creative impulses, allowing each artist to contribute their unique perspective and imaginative touch, ultimately enriching the grand tapestry of Indian art, as elucidated by Malhotra.
The workshop is open to visitors between 10 am and 6 pm, inviting exploration of the Printmaking Studios at the Government College of Art, as well as the CLKA Open Hand Art Studios.
The culmination of this artistic journey will be marked by a closing ceremony on August 12th at 5:30 pm, set within the auditorium of the Government Museum and Art Gallery in Sector 10.
