Admission criteria to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by participating State Governments, and other Institutions shall include the performance in the class 12/equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.
The States of Gujarat, Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) application form online.
The detailed information bulletin containing details of examination, syllabus, eligibility criteria to appear, examination fee, cities of examination, State code of eligibility, age relaxation, process of normalization of marks, eligibility for admission, reservation policies and important dates will be available on JEE (Main) website www.jeemain.nic.in.

- General Candidates Born or after October 01, 1992
- Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Person with Disabilities (PwD) candidates Born or after October 01, 1987
- Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2015 or 2016
- Those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2017.
- The candidates willing to appear for improvement examination of class 12th in 2017 have to appear in all the 5 subjects as per the scheme of study of the concerned board. Further, they may also note that in the percentile system, the total marks (of all five subjects) obtained/shown on the
mark-sheet of a particular year are required in JEE (Main) and also in JEE (Advanced).
- The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).
- Since the State of Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system, the age limit, for admission to institutions in the state of Odisha which were earlier admitting candidates based on their Sate level examinations, will be as per their past practice only. The number of attempts in such cases will also remain same as per their past practice. This will, however, be obviously not applicable for admission to IITs/NITs/IIITs/CFTIs.

The aspiring candidates have to apply online only through JEE (Main) website www.jeemain.nic.in. The online application process will start from 1st week December 2016 onwards. The last date for application is last week of December 2016. The eligibility criteria for JEE (Main) & JEE (Advanced) are different. The candidates are requested to read the information bulletin carefully and themselves ensure their eligibility as per the criteria laid down for JEE (Main) as well as JEE (Advanced).
Online Application Form Submission –
Online application has to be submitted through JEE (Main) -2017 website www.jeemain.nic.in. The aspiring candidate should furnish all the details and upload scanned image of his/her photograph, signature and left hand thumb impression while filling up the ‘On-line’ Application. Candidates are required to take a print out of the computer generated acknowledgment slip after successful submission of data and payment of fee and keep the same in the safe custody for any future reference.
- The entire application process is online, including uploading of photograph &signature and payment of fee the candidates are required NOT to send any document to JEE(Main) Secretariat.
Seven (7) Steps to be followed to apply online.
Step 1: Download the information bulletin and read it carefully to ensure your eligibility.
Step 2: Read the contents of Online Format and instructions for applying online given in the Information Bulletin and keep the entire information ready.
Step 3: Keep the Scanned Images of your Photograph, Signature and Left Hand Thumb Impression ready in JPG format only.
Step 4: Fill in the Online Application Form.
Step 5: Upload Scanned Images of Photograph, Signature and Left Hand Thumb Impression.
Step 6: Pay Examination Fee by Debit/Credit card or e-challan (generated after submission of details in online application form).
Step 7: Download Acknowledgement Slip and keep the same in safe custody for future reference.
NOTE- The candidate should mention only his/her own Mobile No. and E- Mail ID while submitting the ON-line application, as all the communications will be sent to the candidates on their registered Mobile Number and E-mail ID only.
The application fee has to be paid to complete the application process. Application fee can be paid either through online or offline mode. Application fee paid is non-refundable. The application fee for different categories is as follows-

The candidates should go through the examination syllabus before they start their preparation. It will help them to plan their study accordingly. Paper I will have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Paper II will have Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing Test.
JEE (Main) 2017 shall have two papers,
Paper-1 (B.E. / B. Tech.) and Paper-2(B. Arch./ B. Planning). Depending upon on the course (s) candidates are seeking admission, may take Paper-1 B.E. / B. Tech.), or Paper-2 B. Arch./ B. Planning), or both. Subject combination for each paper, type of questions in each paper and mode of examination available is given in the table below.

The Admit Card can be downloaded from JEE (Main) website from 2nd week March 2017 onwards. Prior To Downloading The Admit Card, The Candidates Are Required To Provide Their Roll No. And Board Details Of Class 12th/ Equivalent Qualifying Examination On The Jee (Main) Website. Previous Years
Pass Outs Candidate Should Verify Their Roll No. And Board Details Of Class 12th/Equivalent Qualifying Examination.
The candidates are advised to download their admit cards from JEE (Main) website only. The Candidates are also advised to regularly see JEE (Main) website for updates. A call center will also be functional on all working days from 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM for general facilitation. The phone numbers of the call centre are available on the website of JEE (Main).
I. The score of Paper-I of JEE (Main) 2017 for all candidates will be declared on last week of April 2017. This score shall comprise the actual marks obtained in Paper-I of JEE (Main) – 2017 along with the status of those who qualify for appearing in JEE (Advanced) 2017 provided and subject to other conditions of eligibility being met.
II. separately, on the basis of score in JEE (Main)-2017 and normalised score in Class 12th or equivalent qualifying exam (60% & 40% weightage respectively), separate rank lists will be prepared for admission to B.E./B. Tech. and B. Arch/ B. Planning (in institutions other than IITs). This will be declared on or before last week of June 2018. JEE (Main)-2017 Rank Card indicating All India Rank, State Rank and Category Rank with total marks and marks in each paper will be available on JEE (Main) website after the declaration of result.
Only the All India Rank (AIR) is used for admissions through Central Seat Allocation Board to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs/SFIs/Others, while other ranks are for information purposes.
