The JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern is crucial for determining admission criteria for undergraduate engineering programs at various institutions, including NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions, institutions funded by participating state governments, and other affiliated institutions. It will consider the performance in the class 12 or equivalent qualifying examination, as well as the Joint Entrance Exam, JEE (Main).
Furthermore, Paper-1 (B.E./B.Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also serve as an eligibility test for those aspiring to take the JEE (Advanced). This step is essential for candidates who aim to secure admission in the undergraduate programs offered by the prestigious IITs.
JEE Main Exam Pattern
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced significant changes to the Exam Pattern for JEE Main 2023. These changes encompass alterations in the types of questions, marks distribution, exam mode, duration, and more.
In order to prepare for the exam, candidates are suggested to go through the JEE Main exam pattern 2024.
JEE (Main)-2024 will be conducted in the following modes:
Duration of Exam [Paper 1 , 2A & 2B] : 3 Hours Paper [For PwD Candidates (4 hours)]
Duration of Exam [B.Arch. & B.Planning (both)] : 03 Hours 30 Minutes [For PwD Candidates (4 hours 10 minute)]
Paper 1 – B.E./ B.Tech.
- Mode of Examination : Computer Based Test (CBT) mode
- IST First Shift – 09:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
- IST Second Shift – 03:00 P.M. to 06:00 P.M.

- * For Paper 1 and Part-I of Paper 2, each Subject will have two sections. Section A will be of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) and Section B will contain Questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. In Section B, candidates have to attempt any 05 (five) questions out of 10. There will be negative marking for both Section A and Section B.
Mode of Exam – The exam is a Computer Based Test.
Question type – The questions are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Questions for which the answer is a numerical value.
Exam Duration – The entrance exam is of 3 hours (if attempting only one paper) or 3.5 hours (if attempting paper 2A and 2B both).
Language of Question Paper – The question paper is in language English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Marking Scheme –
- Candidates get +4 marks for correct answer.
- And negative marks is -1 for incorrect answers.
