NTA has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 exam conducted on May 3, 2026. A NEET 2026 re-exam will be held on fresh dates to be announced soon. Candidates do not need to register again – existing registration data, candidature and chosen exam city will remain valid. No additional examination fee will be charged, and the fees already paid will be refunded. The re-test will be conducted using NTA’s internal resources.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is the standardized entrance examination for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and AYUSH (BAMS, BHMS, etc.) courses in India. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), NEET serves as the single window for admissions to all medical colleges across the country, including premier institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER.

For the 2026-2027 academic session, students must stay updated with the latest NTA notifications to ensure timely registration and preparation.

NEET Exam

The NEET (UG) is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) since 2019 with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Human Resource Development. NEET (UG) has to be conducted as a common and uniform National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to undergraduate medical education in all medical institutions, including those governed under any other law in force.

The NEET (UG) is going to be conducted by NTA as per the Schedule given in the Information at a Glance for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, and BHMS Courses as per the relevant norms/guidelines/regulations notified by the concerned Regulatory Bodies.

Seats Offered

  • Admissions to all seats of Undergraduate Medical Courses will be done through NEET (UG)-2026. The following are the seats available under different quotas:
    • All India Quota Seats
    • State Government Quota Seats
    • Central Institutions/Universities/Deemed Universities
    • State/Management/NRI Quota Seats in Private Medical / Dental Colleges or any
    • Private University
    • Central Pool Quota Seats
    • All seats including NRI Quota as well as Management Quota, are in private
    • unaided/aided minority / non-minority medical colleges.
    • AIIMS Institutes across India/JIPMER.
    • The Counselling for successful candidates for Seats under 15% All India Quota and 100% including 85% State quota seats of Central Institutions (ABVIMS & RML  Hospital/VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital/ESIC)/ Central Universities (including DU/ BHU /AMU)/ AIIMS/ JIPMER and Deemed Universities, will be conducted by the MCC/DGHS for Undergraduate Medical / Dental Courses. MCC only does the registration for AFMC and forwards the data of registered Candidates to AFMC Authorities for the admission process. DU/BHU and other Universities may use the score for any other relevant courses being offered by them

NEET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Before filling out the application, ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum Age: Must be 17 years old by December 31 of the year of admission.
  • Educational Qualification: Passed or appearing in 10+2 (Higher Secondary) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.
  • Qualifying Marks: A minimum of 50% marks in PCB for General category (40% for SC/ST/OBC).
  • Nationality: Indian Citizens, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and Foreign Nationals are eligible.

Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The NEET exam remains a pen-and-paper-based test. Familiarizing yourself with the structure is the first step toward a high score.

  • Total Marks: 720
  • Total Questions: 200 (Candidates must attempt 180)
  • Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology.
  • Marking: +4 for every correct answer; -1 for every incorrect answer.

Subject-wise Question Distribution

  1. Physics: 35 (Section A) + 15 (Section B – attempt 10)
  2. Chemistry: 35 (Section A) + 15 (Section B – attempt 10)
  3. Biology: 70 (Section A) + 30 (Section B – attempt 20)

How to Apply for NEET 2026

The registration process is entirely digital. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official NTA website: neet.nta.nic.in.
  2. Complete the Online Registration using a valid email and mobile number.
  3. Fill in the Application Form with personal and academic details.
  4. Upload scanned documents (Photograph, Signature, Thumb impression).
  5. Pay the Application Fee via online payment gateways.
