National Institute of Technology (NIT), Sikkim invites applications for PhD programs in following departments:
1. Computer Science and Engineering
2. Electronics and Communication Engineering
3. Electrical and Electronics Engineering
4. Mechanical Engineering
8. Humanities and Social Sciences (Economics and English)
9. Library Sciences
10. Interdisciplinary field
Over and above the programmes in various disciplines, candidates are strongly encouraged to undertake PhD in interdisciplinary areas.
Interested candidates should fulfill following eligibility criteria:
=> The general eligibility criterion for admission in all Departments/fields are given below. These eligibility conditions are the absolute minimum; Departments may prescribe any other requirements over and above the minimum criteria, subject to the approval of the Postgraduate Committee.
(a) Master degree in Engineering/ Technology with a minimum of 70% marks or equivalent grade; OR
(b) Master degree in Science with First class or minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade; OR
(c) Bachelor degree in Engineering/ Technology or equivalent, with minimum 75% marks or equivalent grade.
For SC/ST candidates a relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade will be considered.

=> Eligible candidates are required to download the application form from our Institute website www.nitsikkim.ac.in. Dully filled-in and signed application form along with a demand draft of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 100/-for SC/ST) in favour of “Director, NIT Sikkim” payable at Ravangla, must reach Assistant Dean (Academic Affairs), National Institute of Technology Sikkim, Ravangla, South Sikkim 737 139.
=> Note: Candidates applying for more than one programme in different departments have to apply on separate application forms, with a Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- (Rs.100/- for SC/ST) for each programme.

Candidates are required to submit following:
(a) Valid GATE/CEED score
(b) CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ DST award or Fellowship
(c) Minimum 2 years of professional work experience, for Sponsored (FT02/ PT06), Self financed (FT03/ PT07) categories, and Institute Staff of NIT Sikkim (“Institute Staff” sub-category of PT05)
(d) Minimum 6 months project work experience in the Institute, for Project Staff of NIT Sikkim (“Project Staff” sub-category of PT05).
The candidates are required to bring the following documents at the time of written examination/ interview:
i) High School Certificate in original.
ii) Mark sheets of qualifying examination in original.
iii) Character Certificate issued by the Head of the institution last attended.
iv) Certificate of sponsorship (if applicable).
v) No Objection Certificate from employer (if applicable).
vi) OBC/SC/ST/PH certificate, if applicable.
vii) Certificate of OBMC (for a sub-quota of 4.5% for minorities within the 27% reservation for OBCs).
At the time of enrollment, the following documents need to be produced by the candidate:
• Two passport size photographs.
• One set of self-attested copies of all the documents listed in section 9 i) – vii) above.
• Admission letter.
