Automobile Engineering

About

Automobile Engineering is an engineering branch which deals with designing, manufacturing and operating automobiles. This segment deals with motorcycles, buses, trucks, etc. It includes mechanical, electrical, electronic, software and safety engineering. Automobile Engineering includes various aspects which are of importance to an automobile engineer. They are - Safety engineering: Safety engineering is the study of various crash scenarios and their impact on people sitting inside the vehicle.

Fuel economy/emissions: Fuel economy is the measured fuel efficiency of the vehicle in miles per gallon or kilometers per litre. Emissions testing can be done by measuring amount of hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides(NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and evaporative emissions.

Vehicle dynamics: Vehicle dynamics is the response of vehicle to ride, handling, steering, braking, comfort and traction. NVH engineering (noise, vibration, and harshness): NVH is the customer's feedback about felt and heard vibration from the vehicle.

Vehicle Electronics: Automotive electronics is an important aspect of automotive engineering.

Performance: Performance is a measurement of vehicles ability to perform in various conditions.

Shift quality: Shift quality is the driver’s perception of the vehicle to an automatic transmission shift event.

Durability / corrosion engineering: Durability and corrosion engineering is the checking vehicles life.

Package / ergonomics engineering: is an engineering discipline that designs/analyzes the occupant accommodations , ingress/egress to the vehicle, and their field of vision.
Climate control: It is the customer’s view of the cabin environment and level of comfort to the temperature and humidity changes in the environment.

Assembly feasibility: It is designing of good tolerant units which are durable. Quality management - Quality control is very important within the production process, as high quality means satisfied customers and it avoids expensive recall campaigns. along with these Drivability, Cost, Program timing has to be looked into keenly by an automobile engineer.
