Eligibility Criteria
- For admission, candidates must have completed either:
- A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree program after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program, or
- A 2-year/4-semester master’s degree program after a 3-year bachelor’s degree program, or
- Qualifications deemed equivalent to a master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body. Candidates should have achieved a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale, wherever grading system is followed. Alternatively, an equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an approved assessment and accreditation agency is acceptable.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be granted for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other eligible categories, as per the decision of the Commission.
- Candidates seeking admission after completing a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program should have obtained a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale, where applicable. Similarly, a relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for candidates from eligible categories as per the Commission’s decision.
Application Process
- The application can be downloaded from the website www.vmrfdu.edu.in. Once filled out, the application must be forwarded by the Head of the Department and the Head of the Institution where the candidate intends to conduct research.
- Candidates are advised to review the list of available vacancies and approach the Institution and Department of their choice. They should discuss their interest in pursuing the Ph.D. program with available supervisors and assess the resources available.
- Additionally, for those applying to a part-time Ph.D. program, the application must be signed by the candidate’s employer. The completed application, along with a Demand Draft (DD) of Rs.1,000/- (One thousand only) as application fee (DD drawn in favor of “VMRF(DU) PHD” payable at Salem), must be sent before 29.02.2024 to The Registrar, Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (DU), Sankari Main Road (NH-47), Ariyanoor, Salem – 636 308, Tamil Nadu. Admission Process
Admission will be conducted through a National Level Entrance Test/Interview organized by the university. Candidates who have qualified for fellowships/scholarships in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED, and similar national level tests are exempted from the entrance test but are required to appear for the interview. However, M.Phil. Full-Time/Part-Time candidates are not exempted from the entrance examinations.
i. The Entrance Examination will have qualifying marks set at 50%, with a relaxation of 5% (from 50% to 45%) allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layers)/EWS (Economically Weaker Section), differently-abled category, and other specified categories as per UGC notifications.
The Entrance Examination will consist of two parts: a. Written Examination b. Interview
ii. The syllabus of the Entrance Test will comprise 50% research methodology and 50% subject-specific topics.
The Written Examination will be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, with a maximum of 70 marks. The time duration may vary depending on the mode of Examination. It will consist of 70 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) carrying 1 mark each, covering subjects at the PG Degree level.
iii. Candidates who achieve a minimum of 50% marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview.
Financial Support
To support full-time research endeavors, VMRF (DU) provides Research Fellowships to eligible scholars enrolled in full-time Ph.D. programs. Below are the details of the fellowship:
- Rs. 25,000 to 30,000 per month: Available only for full-time research scholars.
- Rs. 30,000 per month: Applicable to candidates who have qualified in GATE/NET (Ayush)/UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC–CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GRE/CAT/ICMR, and any other National Eligibility Test based on merit vacancies.
- For others: Up to Rs. 25,000 per month based on merit.
All other eligibility criteria, such as academic qualifications, entrance examination performance, etc., will be in accordance with UGC/University regulations.
