Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission to the PhD program:

  • You should hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent professional degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate, or its grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent grade.
  • Candidates who have completed M. Phil, M. Tech, M. E., M. S., or M. D. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate (or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale) and have successfully obtained the M. Phil, M. Tech, M. S. degree are eligible for PhD.
  • A relaxation of 5% (from 55% to 50%), or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be granted to candidates from SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), differently-abled, and other eligible categories, as decided by the Commission.

Exemption from Entrance Test

You may be exempt from the PhD entrance test (KUPET) if you fulfill any of the following criteria:

  • Completed an M. Phil, M. Tech, M. D., M. E., M. Pharm, M. Arch, or equivalent degree from any recognized Indian university in accordance with UGC guidelines.
  • Qualified in GATE, SET, NET, JEST Examination, or hold a teacher fellowship.
  • Hold a scholarship from national apex bodies such as DST, UGC, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DBT, NBHM, MOTA, AYUSH.
  • Hold the position of a scientist in a national-level research laboratory and have published at least one research paper in refereed journals.
  • Are a foreign national holding research visas issued according to HRD Ministry guidelines, provided all other eligibility conditions are met.
  • Teachers currently in service at Kolhan University may directly appear for an interview.
  • Scientists and professionals working at R&D institutes of the Government of India or State Government may directly appear for an interview or e-interview, subject to fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria.

Exemption from PhD Course Work

Candidates with an M. Phil, M. Tech, M. D., M. S., M. Des., or equivalent degree are exempt from course work. However, they must participate in an interview, prepare a synopsis, and make a presentation.

If a candidate has already completed the Pre-Ph.D. Course work or a post-PG Scientist training program or an equivalent post-PG training program lasting one year (two semesters) at any government university, centrally funded institution, or research institution, they may also be exempted from course work with the approval of DRC.

Application Form

Exam Pattern

  • The examination will consist of two papers, with a total of 300 marks (Paper-I: 50 questions, 100 marks; Paper-II: 100 questions, 200 marks).
  • The question papers will be of the Multiple-Choice-Question (MCQ) type, with each question carrying marks.
  • There is no negative marking.

Result

  • The results will be published on the University’s official website.

  • It also shall consist of – two papers, Paper I- Compulsory and Paper-II as per Core paper CSIR-UGC Syllabus

Issue of Admit Card 

  • Admit cards will be issued online.-Candidates ‘are required to download from the website. They are advised to regularly visit the website to keep themselves acquainted.
