The GATE examination is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on a rotational basis. These institutes include IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee. Each year, one of these institutes acts as the organizing institute responsible for managing the examination process, including releasing the notification, handling the application process, conducting the exam, publishing answer keys, and declaring results. The overall coordination is done by the GATE Committee under the National Coordination Board (NCB) of the Ministry of Education.
