The Foundation Year at Sir J.J. School of Art serves as an introductory year where students learn the fundamental principles of art and design. Subjects generally include Basic Drawing, Object Drawing, Memory Drawing, Color Theory, Design Fundamentals, Composition, Material Exploration, and Introduction to Art History. The goal of the foundation year is to develop observation skills, creativity, visual thinking, and technical proficiency. Students experiment with various materials such as charcoal, ink, watercolor, clay, and mixed media. This year helps students understand different artistic approaches before selecting their specialization for the remaining years of the BFA program.
