What is the difference between NEET PG rank, All India Rank (AIR), and category rank?
Understanding the different types of ranks in NEET PG results.
Verified Answer
In NEET PG, several types of ranks are published in the result. The most important is the All India Rank (AIR), which represents the candidate's overall position among all candidates who appeared for the exam across India. This rank is used during the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). Category rank indicates a candidate's position among candidates belonging to a particular reservation category such as SC, ST, OBC, or EWS. Apart from AIR and category rank, state authorities may also generate state merit ranks for state quota admissions. While AIR is used primarily for national-level counselling, category rank is used to allocate reserved seats according to government reservation policies.
