Work experience is not mandatory to appear for CAT or to get admission into IIMs. Fresh graduates are eligible and are regularly admitted. However, relevant work experience (typically 1–3 years) can provide additional weightage during the shortlisting and final selection process at many IIMs and top B-schools.
