If two or more candidates obtain the same marks in NEET UG, a tie-breaking mechanism is used to determine their ranks. Typically, preference is given to candidates with higher marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology combined). If the tie persists, candidates with higher marks in Chemistry are ranked higher. If still unresolved, the candidate with fewer incorrect answers across all subjects is given preference. Additional criteria such as fewer incorrect answers in Biology and Chemistry may also be considered. The exact tie-breaking rules are specified by the NTA in the official information bulletin each year.
