Gap years do not disqualify a candidate from appearing in CAT or securing admission to an IIM. However, candidates must justify the gap convincingly during the Personal Interview. Productive use of gap years—such as preparing for competitive exams, pursuing certifications, working in family business, freelancing, or skill development—can be viewed positively if explained clearly. Unexplained or unproductive gaps may raise questions during PI but are not automatic grounds for rejection.
