Veer Kunwar Singh University, Arrah was established by the Bihar University Act 1976. The university is named after the legendary freedom fighter Veer Kunwar Singh. It serves the education needs of more than one crore population of these districts through its 20 postgraduate departments, 17 constituent degree colleges, three law colleges and 37 affiliated degree colleges. The university ranks 68th in India. The university conducts teaching and learning in areas such as Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Commerce, History, Economics, Sociology etc. It runs exchange programs in affiliation with colleges and institutes in and around the state.

Veer Kunwar Singh University has introduced new courses like B.C.A.,B.Sc.(IT) B.B.A., B.Sc. (Bio-technology) and B.Sc. (Industrial Fisheries),B.Ed., M.B.A, M.C.A., M.Sc. (Bio-technology), M.Sc.(Env. Science), M.A.(P.M.I.R.) ad Bachelor of Library Science and Information Science. The constituent and affiliated college have introduced Certificate / Diploma / Advanced Diploma programme such as D.C.A., Rural Management, Tissue culture, Fisheries, hospital waste Management, Fashion designing, E-commerce and computer hardware maintenance.

The university is situated on 77 acres of land and is distributed over two campuses at a distance of 2 km from each other.
