Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE) was conferred the status of Deemed to be University in the year 2008. CARE has been accredited with grade A by NAAC and accorded SIRO status by DSIR. In conformity with the motto of the University, Educate, Enlighten and Empower, the academic programs offered are professional, job oriented and innovative. CARE offers 60 academic programs in faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (AHS). Program range includes 7 undergraduate, 44 post graduate, 1 postgraduate diploma, 7 superspeciality courses and Doctor of Philosophy. Most of these courses are interdisciplinary and as per emerging needs. Choice Based Credit System pattern is followed in Allied Health Science programs and integrated with research projects that engage students in discovery through research. Potential of employment for students in industry is established through industrial training. Course curriculum are designed and periodically revised with industrial and academic expert guidance to make the students work, world and futur ready.

CARE has 1560 students pursuing their UG, PG or PhD education in the academic year 2016-17. First generation graduates from rural and semi urban areas contribute to a significant proportion of our students. Equal opportunity is provided for students of all categories including socially and economically backward classes. Deserving students are offered scholarships. CARE offers excellent teaching with latest teaching aids. Mentorship program offers the required academic and mental support to students. Clinical teaching is provided through our tertiary care hospital and attached health centers apart from the training given in the skills and simulation lab. In addition to freshers orientation, CARE offers wide range of value-added courses like BLS, ACLS, IPR & Ethics, Health Economics, Yoga, Complementary Medicine and Communication skills. Anti ragging committee ensures the campus environment student friendly. Placement assistance is provided to students through counseling and placement cell. Qualified, accomplished and committed teachers form back bone of the CARE. Faculty update their knowledge on contemporary teaching learning techniques through faculty development programs, workshops and CMEs. The mission of CARE is to assemble talented faculty and students to address key and emerging biomedical problems with implications in human health. Research advisory committee and IPR Cell of CARE supports focused cohesive research and has appointed faculty of international repute with the aim of improving research. Translational research focuses on thrust areas such as nanotechnology and biotechnology, human genomics and genetic epidemiology in infectious & lifestyle diseases, native medicine, marine pharmacology, drug discovery, environment, pollution & infection surveillance, bioinformatics & systems biology, pathway analysis in diseases, innovation, import substitutions & diagnostics etc. CARE has established State of art instrumentation facility for biomedical research incorporating genomics, nanotechnology laboratories, tissue culture facility, bioinformatics & computational biology labs, in-vitro fertilization lab, high throughput computing facility for drug discovery, in vivo small animal imaging and CPCSEA-approved animal facility.

CARE has started to attract extramural funding from Government agencies like DST, DST Indo-Italy, DST-ECR, DBT, CSIR, ICMR, RSSDI etc, for research projects on colorectal cancers, use of marine based compounds for drug discovery, nanoprobes for diagnostics and insulin resistance in diabetics respectively. To promote quality research, CARE offers JRF for full time PhD scholars, Post doctoral fellowship and seed money for faculty research. Short research projects are incorporated in the undergraduate curriculum and medical undergraduates are encouraged to take up the ICMR Short term studentship. CARE has 206 research publications, filed 13 patents and organized 22 conferences, workshops and seminars during the academic year 2016-17. For promoting and facilitating our research and training capabilities CARE has 16 active MoU with 6 new MoU established in this academic year with renowned academic institutions and industries.

The university publishes Chettinad Health City Medical Journal, a quarterly, international, indexed and peer reviewed scientific journal. CARE has a strong focus on E-Learning and has equipped students with laptops and the Chettinad learning management system, a Networked Learning Environment (NLE), in which students can view instructional content, collaborate with educators, view their academic performance and access learning resources anytime from anywhere. CARE has inclusive administration and transparent evaluation processes. High bandwidth computing facility, central and departmental libraries cater to additional thirst for knowledge. The benefit of translational research of CARE to the society is widened through our extension activities that provide greater interface with society through field and service related programs. Commitment to society by CARE is well exemplified by the health promotion activities in the 12 villages adopted. CARE also collaborates adeptly with government and NGO in all health initiatives in these villages. All this has been possible through the dynamic participation of faculty, students and NSS volunteers, making them good citizens with societal commitment and empathy. Holistic development of students is ensured by participation in sports, games and cultural activities. To facilitate this, indoor stadium, swimming pool, football and cricket grounds, tennis and basket ball courts, 400m synthetic track and gymnasium have been constructed. CARE has played host to various state and national level tournaments. Two state of the art auditoria with 1350 and 420 seating capacity, equipped with advanced acoustics are available. Our students have received several awards in inter-collegiate events. The university takes pride in its green campus. Use of renewable energy sources, water recycling, vehicle free green zones and cycles for in-campus mobility makes the campus eco friendly. The self contained wi-fi enabled campus houses the hospital, academic and administrative blocks, hostel for girls, boys and apartments and villas for staff and faculty. Campus security is ensured through turnstile, CCTV camera and access control at strategic locations. In addition banks, ATMs, food courts, stationary shop, gym and beauty parlor make life at CARE pleasurable.
