Eligibility: Higher Secondary for First Year and Bachelor’s Degree in Natya for Fourth year Admission.
The Department of Natya at Dr. M.G.R. Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women hosts a 5 year integrated M.A. Course where students can join immediately after the 12th std. and undergo their studies for five years thus attaining an M.A. Degree in Natya. The student also has the option to complete her studies after three years with a B.A. Degree. The course consists of complete study of the three major components of Natya that is Dance Drama and Music, along with allied subjects that relate to the aspect of Natya. The major subjects are given as much theoretical importance as practical. During the course students are presented with many opportunities to perform and thus enhance their skills. Students are encouraged to portray their talents in various programmes right from the first year of joining.
Some of the programmes taken up by current students include performing for various television channels like Makkal TV, Raj TV, Vijay TV Sun TV and Pothigai Channel.
They have also participated in the South Zone Competition finals in Kerala. Students are given the chance to perform in many competitions to showcase their talents. The students have put together programmes for functions both at college and outside the college. They also presented a programme on All India Radio.
They have also appeared in magazines and newspapers such as Hindu, Indian Express, Aval Vikadan, Dhinkaran, Dhinathandhi, Kungumam, Penne nee and so on.
Apart from these great opportunities in the duration of the course, there are also good job opportunities upon finishing one’s M.A. Natya Degree.
