The United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), a leading research and teaching institute in Tokyo, Japan, is offering the Japan Foundation for UNU (JFUNU) Scholarships for the 3-year PhD Programme in Sustainable Science , for outstanding applicants from developing countries with financial need

Eligibility

Eligible scholarship recipients would be those students with outstanding academic qualifications from developing countries on the OECD DAC list

They must have demonstrated financial need, who have been accepted into the PhD programme in Sustainability Science by the UNU-IAS. Applicants who are currently living in Japan under a working visa and those who want to pursue a second PhD degree at UNU-IAS are not eligible for the scholarship

Applicants for the PhD programme must possess a strong interest in sustainability studies, demonstrate commitment to study and understand global issues, and possess a Masters degree in disciplines related to sustainability studies and a minimum of 2 years of practical field experience related to UNU-IAS research themes

Those without experience must possess 2 Masters degrees, at least 1 of which must in a discipline related to sustainability studies

How to Apply

During admission selection process, outstanding applicants from developing countries with financial need will be automatically considered as candidates for the award of the JFUNU scholarship. Thus, no separate scholarship application is necessary.
