Introduction to Textiles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(a) Definitions of textiles, fibre, yarn and fabric and their qualities.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An introduction to textiles by identifying textiles currently available in the market.&nbsp;Understanding of textiles by defining basic terms such as: fibre, yarn, fabric, finish, textile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uses of textiles in the following aspects of life&nbsp;should be discussed briefly: Apparel,&nbsp;household, industrial &amp; medical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The components of serviceability of textile products should be explained with reference&nbsp;to: aesthetics, durability, comfort, appearance, retention and care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(b) Importance of the textile industry<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Importance of the textile industry to the&nbsp;Economy of India &#8211; a brief discussion on its contribution to the GDP, employment &amp;&nbsp;export.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-textile-fibres\">2. Fabric Construction Techniques<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(a) Weaving: Characteristics, advantages, disadvantages and uses.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Understanding basic terminology: Warp, weft&nbsp;and grain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Process of weaving: a basic understanding of the loom and its operations;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The three basic weaves:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plain Weave&nbsp;&#8211; its variations (Basket and Rib).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Twill Weave &#8211; its variations (Uneven and&nbsp;Even)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Satin and Sateen Weave<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A brief idea of construction, characteristics,&nbsp;advantages, disadvantages and uses of the&nbsp;above weaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(b) Other fabric constructions:<\/strong>&nbsp;Knitting, Knotting (macram\u00e9), Crochet, Braiding and Lace &#8211; to be explained briefly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basic understanding of the making, use and characteristics of the above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Difference between woven and knit fabrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(c) Non-Wovens<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; Leather, Suede, Fur, Felt, Plastics, Bonded, Fused and Laminated&nbsp;fabrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uses and characteristics of the above to be&nbsp;explained briefly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-textiles-in-india\">5.
