Subtraction of like fractions<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A figure is divided into 5 equal parts and 4 of them are colored. That is, 45 part of the figure is coloured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, we remove the colour from one of the coloured parts. That is, we subtract 15 from 45. The remaining coloured part is 35. Therefore, 45 \u2013 15 = 4\u221215 = 35.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When subtracting a fraction from another like fraction, we write the difference between the numerators in the numerator and the common denominator in the denominator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Example (1) Subtract : 713 \u2013 513<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These two fractions have a common denominator. So, we shall subtract the second numerator from the first and write the denominator as it is.
713\u2212513=7\u2212513=213<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Example (2) If Raju got 512 part of a sugarcane and Sanju got 312 part, how much was the extra part that Raju got?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To find out the difference, we must subtract.
512\u2212312=5\u2212312=212. Thus, Raju got 212 extra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
