Meteors are small celestial objects that are seen as bright streaks of light in the sky.  Due to the heat produced by the friction of the Earth\u2019s atmosphere, the Meteors are burnt out while entering in, this causes the bright streaks in the sky. They are not planets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

b) Asteroids<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Asteroids are the collection of a huge number of small objects; gasses and dust revolving around the sun. Between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, they occupy the large gap. These are not planets. They are the celestial bodies and are known as Asteroids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12.  Explain how you can locate the Pole Star with the help of Ursa Major.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pole star can be located using the ursa major constellation, by imagining a line towards the Northern direction connecting two stars presnt at the end of the bowl, This imaginary line meets Pole Star. The length of the imaginary line from the bowl is about five times the distance between the two stars of the bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14. Why is the distance between stars expressed in light years? What do you understand by the statement that a star is eight light years away from the Earth?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The distance of the stars from the Earth and the distance between the stars are very large. It is inconvenient to express these distances in kilometer (km). Thus, these large distances are expressed in light years. One light year is the distance travelled by light in one year. One light year is equal to 9.46 x 1012<\/sup>km.
A star is located eight light years away from the Earth. This means that the distance between the star and the Earth is equivalent to the distance travelled by light in eight years, i.e., a star is located 8 x (9.46 x 1012<\/sup>) = 7.6 x 1013<\/sup>km away from the Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15. The radius of Jupiter is 11 times the radius of the Earth. Calculate the ratio of the volumes of Jupiter and the Earth. How many Earths can Jupiter accommodate?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earth and Jupiter can be considered as two spheres with radii R<\/em> and R’<\/em> respectively. Given that the radius of Jupiter is 11 times the radius of the Earth.
