Despite this unambiguous directive, the Muslim women have lagged far behind in education. Sincere and sustained efforts are needed to raise the level of education of the Muslim women. As education is the chief instrument of empowerment, it was felt that the best way to bring higher education to Muslim girls in general and Muslim girls from Melapalayam in particular is to start a college of arts and science exclusively for-girls.
