Samarth Educational Trust is established by renowned educationist Hon. Mr. Arvind Gavali in 1988 in Satara. The main aim & objective to form Samarth Educational Trust is to educate the students in professional courses in rural areas. To make his dreams true, he started Homoeopathic Medical College in 1988 at Adalat wada a historical place in Satara.In 2002, to make the medical fraternity more sound, Sawkar Pharmacy College & in 2007 Arvind Gavali College of Pharmacy was established at Jaitapur, Satara. In the beginning of Homoeopathic course, Diploma in Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery (D.H.M.S.) & later B.H.M.S. course was started & it was affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Now since 1998 B.H.M.S. course is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.Sawkar Homoeopathic Medical College is in the lush green surrounding at additional M.I.D.C. Satara. Campus is located in two acres of land. The built up area is 50000 sq.ft. In the campus along with college building there is twenty five bedded Samarth Hospital, ladies hostel, canteen etc.
Sawkar Homoeopathic Medical College building consists of different well equipped laboratories, lecture halls, Library, Conference hall etc.Samarth Hospital is well equipped 25 bedded hospitals. Well trained hospital staff is available twenty four hours. All types of medical & surgical cases & emergencies are handled efficiently at low cost. Well equipped Operation Theatre, Medical Laboratory, Labor Room, Burn Unit, General & Special Rooms are available at low cost. Samarth Hospital is a boon to the people of M.I.D.C. & surrounding areas.To help the needy patients, Samarth Educational Trust had started 10 Out Patients Departments (OPD) where homoeopathic treatment is given free of cost. Hundreds of people are benefited by homoeopathic medicines. These ten OPD’s are in rural areas surrounding Satara city. Free homoeopathic diagnostic & treatment camps are arranged frequently in OPD’s.
All National Health Services Scheme of Govt. Mata-Balsangopan enter, Vaccinations camp, Govt. Family planning camps, AIDS Awareness camps conducted regularly in Samarth Hospital which is beneficial to all needy patients. Hospital is recognized by Govt. as MTP Center & Family Planning Center. Along with the medical education, different extracurricular activities are conducted throughout the year such as sports, National Service Scheme, Student’s Council, and Annual Social Gathering. N.S.S. conducts special service camp in rural areas. Through N.S.S., students learn to do the selfless work & serve the humanity. N.S.S. helps to develop the personality of the students. Many students take part in the sport events on university & inter university level. Annual social gathering is a festival of youth in which Debating, Elocution Competitions, Flower Decoration, Quiz, Variety Entertainment programme, Fun fair, Rangoli Competition are conducted. Many students are ranked in merit list in all over Maharashtra. Among them was Miss. Pramila Thorat who stood first in Nov. 2003 in all medical faculties & was awarded with four gold medals. Principal, Dr. R.N. Bhosale, Vice Principal Dr. Mrs. S.R. Palekar, Professor Dr. R.M. Nalawade, Dr. Mrs. A.S. Bidwai have achieved marvelous success in post graduate examination & awarded M.D.(Homoeopathy) degree. With the sincere efforts of Dr. Ravi Bhosale, Principal of Sawkar Homoeopatic Medical College & Mr. Ramesh Katedeshmukh, Principal of Sawkar Pharmacy College, both the colleges are making progress in medical knowledge & advance technology.
Recently Principal Dr. Ravi Bhosale was elected as member to Central Council of Homoeopathy, Delhi, which is Apex Body for regulation of Homoeopathy in India.
