The Pravara Rural Education Society grew, fostered and evolved during the life time of Padmashri Dr.Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil. After him all the multifarious and multifaceted activities initiated by him are continued and, in fact, taken to greater heights by his illustrious son Hon'ble Shri E.V. alias Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, a Veteran Parliamentarian and Chairman, Pravara Rural Education Society. He is former Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India. The seed laid by the Padmashri is blossoming into sylvan symphony with a large chain of educational institutions through the meticulous planning and dynamic leadership of Shri Balasaheb Vikhe Patil 'the worthy son of worthy father. Hon 'ble Shri Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil possesses dynamic personality and pragmatic vision. He is taking very keen interest in the progress of various institutions of Pravara Rural Education Society and has taken-up the Herculean task of modernizing the Systems and Processes. He has new knowledge with suitable blend of Indian culture and is working day and night to impart pragmatic dimensions to Pravara Rural Education Society and the institutions under this. He is a prodigy of knowledge and paragon of virtues. He is Ex-Minister for Agriculture & Water Conservation, Maharashtra State and presently a MLA.
The Society is headed by a Chairman - Hon 'ble Shri Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India who is assisted by a Vice-Chairman, Member of Governing Body (eminent persons of local area and people of repute from different walks of life from the State and outside) Secretary and Additional Secretaries. There are five committees to look after the different departmentsj areas of society for the smooth and effective functioning of the society and all institutions under it. These committees are - Managing Committee, Works Committee, Staff Selection Committee, Purchase Committee and Executive Committee.Dr.N.J.Sonawane is the Secretary of the Pravara Rural Education Society since June 2003. He holds post graduate degree in Chemistry and he obtained the same from the University of Pune. Later completed his Ph.D. from the same University. He has distinction of having done Post Doctoral Research in Chemistry, at Nagoya University Japan. In addition to these he holds Bachelor's Degree in Law.
Dr. Sonawane started his career as Professor of Chemistry and soon became Head of the Department and later the Principal. He has headed reputed colleges of Nashik. In June 1998 he got most cowted post of Pro Vice Chancellor of University of Pune. Later on worked as Vice Chancellor of the same.He has attended a number of conferences, seminars and workshops and is a member president of various prestigious academic bodies.Dr.Sonawane has flair for writing and has authored several books besides publishing number of articles in various magazines and news papers.He has given number of Radio talks on topics of general interest and has shared his experiences of Japan on Mumbai Television.He is an educationist of repute and was instrumental in bring about landmark changes in the University of Pune as his stint as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chancellor.Dr.Sonawane has been conferred with various awards for his contribution in the field of education. Recently has been awarded Mother Teresa Excellence award by Front for National Progress, New Delhi.
The Pravara Rural Education Society established in July, 1964 had twin objectives of providing high class education system comparable to the best in any urban area and to give a fillip to the empowerment of women through need based education. Under the vigilant eyes of Padmashri Dr.Vithalrao Vikhe Patil the Pravara Rural Education Society started its rapid growth and began to playa key role to meet the diversified educational needs of people of Maharashtra in general and ravaranagar in particular. While Pravara Public School and Pravara Kanya Vidya Mandir were getting on their feet, Padmashri set about the task of starting Marathi Medium Schools and covered all the forty villages in and around Pravaranagar.
His intuitive vision led him to the firm conviction that if quality education is provided to rural youth, they will playa dominant role in building the Nation. Further, he believed that education of a woman means the education of the whole family.
