The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy) is a national research deemed university near the city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. It was founded in 1964 as Regional Engineering College Tiruchirappalli by the governments of India and Tamil Nadu under the affiliation of the University of Madras.

The college was granted deemed university status in 2003 with the approval of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Government of India and renamed the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli.

NIT Trichy is consistently ranked among the top engineering institutions in India. In the NIRF Rankings 2023, it was ranked 9th in the Engineering category, 4th in Architecture and 35th in Management.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for admission to NIT Trichy vary depending on the program. However, for most undergraduate programs, students must have passed the 10+2 examination from a recognized board with a minimum percentage of marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. They must also qualify in the entrance exam JEE Mains.

For postgraduate programs, students must have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized university with a minimum percentage of marks. They must also qualify in the entrance exam GATE.

Admission Process

The admission process for NIT Trichy is online. Students must register on the institute’s website and fill out the online application form. They must also upload all the required documents. After the application deadline, the institute will shortlist the candidates based on their merit in the entrance exam. Shortlisted candidates will be called for counseling, where they will be allotted seats based on their rank and choices.
