Prof. Aurora was one of the faculty\u00a0\u00a0members who laid the foundations of the Department\u00a0of Sociology at the University of Hyderabad. He was the Head of the department for many years, and the Dean of the School of Social Sciences from 1988-1991.After retirement he was at the Institute for Social and Economic Change, (ISEC) Bangalore. He had a MA in Economics from London and a PhD in Social Anthropology from Delhi University where he worked under the guidance\u00a0of the renowned sociologist M.N.Srinivas.\u00a0 He was the chair of the governing board of the Deccan Development Society. He authored the following books\u00a0<i>The New Frontiers Men,\u00a0\u00a0<\/i>1967<i>, The Tribe Caste Encounters,\u00a0<\/i>1970<i>\u00a0Technological Change and Industry,\u00a0<\/i>1971,<i>\u00a0and Theory and Practice of the Transfer of Technology,\u00a0\u00a0<\/i>1993.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div id=\"attachment_25599\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-25599\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Prof. Aurora<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span class=\"gmail_default\">Prof. E Haribabu, Prof. Aloka Parasher Sen, Prof. Vinod Pavarala, Prof. Aparna Rayaprol and Dr. V Janardhan,\u00a0were among the faculty who spoke on the occasion about his contributions to Sociology of Development and Science Technology studies and his contributions as a teacher. Dr. Sharada who was Prof. Aurora\u2019s PhD student and fondly shared her rich experiences with the faculty.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>About University of Hyderabad<\/h2>\n<p> The University of Hyderabad is an institute of post-graduate teaching and research. The school was established by an act of the Parliament of India in 1974 as a Central University. Over the years, it has emerged as a top ranking institute of higher education and research in India. The university also offers courses under distance learning programs. The university is a member of the &#8216;Association of Indian Universities&#8217; (AIU), the &#8216;Association of Commonwealth Universities&#8217; (ACU) and &#8216;International Council for Distance Education&#8217;. An Academic Staff College has been functioning on the university campus since 1988 under the UGC scheme for improving the standards of teaching in colleges and universities.
