CHANDIGARH<\/span><\/b>: Strengthening Prime Minister Shri
\nNarendra Modi\u2019s ongoing \u2018Har Ghar Tiranga\u2019 campaign and taking it to
\ninternational level to mark the 75th Independence Day of India, the NID
\nFoundation and Chandigarh University on Saturday created the Guinness World
\nRecord for formation of \u2018World\u2019s Largest Human Image of a Waving National Flag\u2019
\nwhen as many as 5885 students from Chandigarh University and other schools and
\ncolleges along with the volunteers of the NID Foundation of the UT and other
\ndignitaries gathered for the flag formation at Chandigarh Cricket Stadium and
\ncreated the history in the heart of the City Beautiful. <\/span><\/p>\n

Overall,
\nmore than 25,000 people including youth and citizens of Chandigarh filled the
\nair with patriotism which included Punjab Governor and Chandigarh UT
\nAdministrator Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Union Minister of State for External
\nAffairs, and Culture Smt Meenakshi Lekhi, NID Chief Patron and Chandigarh
\nUniversity Chancellor S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Dharam Pal, Adviser to the
\nAdministrator, Chandigarh UT; Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner
\nChandigarh; Sarabjit Kaur, Mayor Chandigarh; Parveer Ranjan, DGP Chandigarh UT,
\nProf Himani Sood, Founder NID Foundation and other top officials of the UT
\nadministration. <\/span><\/p>\n

The event
\nwas aimed at strengthening the \u2018Har Ghar Tiranga\u2019 campaign envisioned by
\nhonourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to
\nmark the 75 years of Independence of country, and take it to international
\nlevel via this world record. Besides igniting the spirit of patriotism and
\nnationalism among the citizens of this great nation, the event will also prove
\nto be a great milestone in achieving Government of India\u2019s target of unfurling
\ntricolour atop 20 Crore houses.<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\npatriotic fervour and zest was visible in the air as more than 25 thousand
\npeople gathered at the Chandigarh Cricket stadium, where over 5885 young boys
\nand girls formed World\u2019s Largest Human Image of a Waving National Flag, thus
\ncreating a new Guinness World Record, amidst the loud chants and cheers from
\nthe gathering. Along with the students, Banwarilal Purohit, Smt Meenakshi
\nLekhi, S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Dharam Pal and other dignitaries were also a
\npart of the flag formation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Swapnil
\nDangarikar, official Guinness World Records Adjudicator, who was present at the
\nevent verified the record. \u201cThe previous world record for the largest human
\nimage of a waving national flag achieved by GEMS Education in Abu Dhabi, UAE
\nhas been broken and a new world record has been created by NID Foundation and
\nChandigarh University in today\u2019s event,\u201d he confirmed. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

UAE had
\nachieved the record for the largest human image of a waving national flag with 4130
\npeople, in 2017. However, India has broken the record comfortably, said the
\nofficial. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr
\nDangarikar also handed over a copy of the GWR certificate to Punjab Governor
\nand UT Administrator Shri Banwarilal Purohit and S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chief
\nPatron, NID Foundation, and Chancellor, Chandigarh University and congratulated
\nthem.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking on
\nthe occasion, Shri Banwarilal Purohit said that with the successful creation of
\nworld record formed by Chandigarh University and NID Foundation, Chandigarh has
\ngiven a great message to the entire world, on the 75th anniversary of India\u2019s
\nIndependence Day. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis event
\nhas become even greater than what I had imagined. I extend my heartfelt
\ncongratulation to Chandigarh University Chancellor and NID Foundation Chief
\nPatron S. Satnam Singh Sandhu whose team has achieved this feat. Not only their
\ninstitutions, but they have made the entire Chandigarh and entire country proud,\u201d
\nsaid Shri Purohit, who was the chief guest at the event.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe way
\nthat the NID Foundation and Chandigarh University has been able to bring people
\ntogether, celebrating the spirit of patriotism and paying tributes to those who

\nThis is the first of its kind event in the entire India and I congratulate them
\non the success of the event,\u201d said Shri Purohit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Asking
\npeople to get motivation from the 25000 citizens who attended the event, Shri
\nPurohit urged them to take a pledge on August 15 to dedicate themselves to the

In her
\naddress, Smt Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, and

\nwe witnessed here today. Congratulations to the NID Foundation, Chandigarh
\nUniversity and most importantly the students, who made this dream of mine come
\ntrue.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\nunion home ministry for the allowing people to unfurl national flags, Lekhi
\nsaid that she was overwhelmed by the respect people have in their hearts for

\ninspiring Indians everywhere to hoist the national flag at their home. This
\nalong with the intent to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of our people
\nwas the motive behind this initiative of NID Foundation and Chandigarh
\nUniversity,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nexcitements of those in attendance knew no bounds as they breathed in
\npatriotism. Sharing his thoughts about the event, Sunil Sharma, a student of
\nChandigarh University said that he was proud of the fact that his university
\norganised such a significant event and made a world record. \u201cI am proud that I
\nam a part of this historic event, celebrating the independence of a land that
\nhas given us a unique identity and associated with proud heritage and values,\u201d
\nhe said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\na day when we commemorate and pay homage to the courageous sacrifices of our
\nfreedom fighters, who fought hard with a worthy patriotic spirit to get their

\npractise the same ideals and values our great countrymen held dear during their
\nstruggle to build an independent India,\u201d said Shahid, another student from the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the
\noccasion, six NGOs were honoured with Karam Yodha awards for distinguished
\nsocial service in their respective fields. These included Harjeet Singh
\nSabbarwal for Tera Hi Tera Mission Hospital, Prof (Dr) Surinder Pal Singh
\nOberoi for Sarbat Da Bhala NGO, Gurmeet Singh Sodi for Sant Baba Kartar Singh
\nJi Bhairon Majra Wala; Asha katoch, MD and CEO for Developing Indigenous
\nResources India, Vineet Joshi for Joshi Foundation, and Pooja Bakshi for Woman
\nand Child Welfare Society. Besides, Youth Icon Awards were presented to eminent
\nIndian Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt for his outstanding achievements in Olympics as
\nwell as Indian Actress Isha Rikhi for making the nation proud in the
\nentertainment industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event
\nconcluded with flag hoisting and singing of the national anthem. The day-long
\nevent also witnessed cultural activities, and a ceremony to acknowledge and
\nhonour the gallant actions and sacrifices of freedom fighters and armed forces
\npersonnel. Awards were also conferred upon people for their exceptional
\nachievements in the fields of arts, education, sports, medicine, public
\naffairs, social service and literature.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from
\nthis, a massive digital campaign has also been launched where the NID
\nFoundation and Chandigarh University will reach out to 1 lakh citizens of
\nChandigarh to motivate them to participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
\nApart from this, patriotic messages will also be sent to 50000 youth of
\nChandigarh to give impetus to this campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n
