MOHALI:<\/span><\/b> India aims to increase the number of
\ninternational students studying in its Universities from 50,000 currently to 5
\nlakh by the year 2024, said Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Honourable Union Minister
\nof State for External Affairs, and Education. Dr Singh was speaking at the
\ninaugural ceremony of Chandigarh University\u2019s International Faculty DevelopmentProgramme (IFDP) 2022 at Varsity\u2019s Gharuan campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/div>\n


<\/span><\/p>\n

Organised as
\npart of Government of India\u2019s initiative for internationalisation of Indian
\nhigher education as per the New Education Policy (NEP), the IFD programme of
\nChandigarh University is Asia\u2019s biggest international Faculty Development program.
\nMore than 123 professors, having expertise in 27 different fields such as
\nEngineering, Management, Liberal Arts, Medical Sciences, Media Studies, Applied
\nSciences etc and teaching in 75 international universities from over 32
\ncountries including USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Spain, South Africa,
\nIreland, UAE, Poland, Denmark, Iran, Oman, Philippines, Malaysia, Kenya,
\nBangladesh, Nepal etc will participate in this 6-day program which will
\nculminate on July 9.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr
\nBanwarilal Natiya, Chairperson, NRC, NCTE Delhi, Prof Rajeev Ahuja, Director
\nIIT Ropar, Sh Dharampal Singh (IAS), Hon\u2019ble Advisor to UT Administrator,
\nChandigarh, Mr Freddy Svane, Danish Ambassador to India, S. Satnam Singh
\nSandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University were the prominent among those
\npresent on the occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking on
\nthe occasion, Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh said that the International Faculty
\nDevelopment Programme organised by Chandigarh University was in true spirit,
\nthe implementation of Internationalisation of Higher Education.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWith more
\nthan 100 Professors from 75 Universities of over 30 countries in attendance, I
\nfeel this Programme is a great opportunity for faculty as it will lead to their
\nsensitisation about new concepts in teaching, enhance their skills and update them
\non latest developments in their field and research methodologies. In line with
\nthe principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam for mutual growth and inclusive
\ndevelopment, this IFDP is surely going to set out a continuous and stirring
\ndiscussion to explore effective methods of improving higher education
\nstandards, both in India and the participating countries,\u201d he said, and batted
\nfor particular attention to be paid to emerging disruptive technologies that
\nwill necessarily transform the education system.<\/span><\/p>\n

Singh noted
\nthat India was once considered as Vishwa Guru in the field of Education and
\nstudents from all over the world came to study here but the student flow to
\nIndia slowed down over the years.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis was
\none of the major concerns for Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji
\nand he has worked tirelessly to reverse the trend. Under his dynamic
\nleadership, we are able to identify the gaps in the higher education, including
\nthe quality of education, irrelevant curriculum and the irrelevance of the
\ncourses vis-a-vis the future employability of students and we have decided to
\nfix all of that with the National Education Policy, 2020 and its
\nimplementation,\u201d said the Minister, who was the chief guest on the occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Singh said
\nthat with the implementation of NEP 2020, the Indian Education System is
\nwitnessing world\u2019s biggest reforms in the field of Education and is focused on
\nMaking India a Vishwa Guru once again in the Global World, primarily by the
\nInternationalization of Indian Education.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe vision
\nof the Honourable Prime Minister has already started showing great results as
\nIndia has increased its share of international students from 2.3% to 6% in the
\nGlobal Student Mobility Market. More than 50,000 students from 164 countries
\nare currently studying in Indian Universities in various programmes and we aim
\nto make that rise to 5 lakh by the year 2024,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Singh called
\nfor empowering the faculty to conduct innovative teaching, research, and
\nservice as they have been given autonomy to innovate on matters of curriculum,
\npedagogy, and assessment within a broad framework of higher education
\nqualifications while ensuring consistency across institutions, programmes and
\nmodes in the NEP-2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

Invoking
\nIndian scriptures, Dr Banwarilal Natiya, Chairperson, NRC, NCTE Delhi, urged
\nthe educational institutions to keep social welfare at the centre of its
\nactivities and exhorted the students to imbibe values along with quality
\neducation. Describing education as the creator of knowledge, Dr Natiya said
\nthat any country can move towards progress and prosperity only through quality
\neducation, whereas Prof Rajeev Ahuja, Director IIT Ropar said that for
\nrealising India\u2019s dream of becoming a Vishwa Guru, a well-trained faculty,
\nupdated with the latest happenings in the fields of science and technology is a
\nprerequisite which can make the fundamentals of basic science among students
\nreally strong, while a strong partnership between industry and academia was
\nequally important.<\/span><\/p>\n

Noting that
\nChandigarh has unmatched reputation as one of the best destinations for higher
\neducation in the country with best GER, highest concentration of Higher
\neducation institutions per square metre of area, Institutions of National
\nImportance and students from all parts of the country and all across globe, Sh
\nDharampal Singh (IAS), Hon\u2019ble Advisor to UT Administrator, Chandigarh called
\nfor collaborations among the best institutions in the tricity, saying that it
\nwould bring the best for all and can help achieve Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in real
\nsense. S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University said that
\nInternationalisation of Education will immensely help Indian students with the
\nglobal exposure and the IFDP organised by the Varsity is a step in line with
\nthe vision of the Honourable Prime Minister.<\/span><\/p>\n

Asserting
\nthat very few countries in the world have the capability, skills and
\nopportunities like India, Mr Freddy Svane, Danish Ambassador to India said that
\nwhat India has achieved in 75 years of its independence is truly outstanding
\nand deserves appreciation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are 1
\nbillion people below the age of 32 years in India, so this nation has huge
\npotential and the new education policy launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra
\nModi will play an important role in this direction,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nday, elaborate discussions were held by the experts on Ideal model of teacher
\neducation in Indian conditions, CO2 fixation, Pandemics, Business Resilience,
\nSustainability, Joint research Proposals with International Organisations and
\nProject Proposal writing, Theatre and Drama, Business Research & Decision
\nMaking Leadership in the Global Context Influencing the Changing Workplace and
\nmany other topics.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
