Aligarh, June 18: Accomplished specialists spoke on the threads that comprise the knowledge of Unani medicine as a healing system from centuries ago to the modern era in a national online symposium on ‘Periodic Profile of Unani Medicine—Analysis, Introspection and Goals with Reference to NCISM 2021’ of the Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University.

Applauding the teaching and training in Unani Medicine at AMU and the various therapeutic approaches used at the Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College (AKTC) at the university; the Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor assured of all possible support and for taking up the pending issues for appropriate redressal.

Moving the resolution of the symposium, the Chairman, Organizing Committee, Prof F S Sherani (Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine) pointed out that Unani System is not being treated equally and is deprived of proper representation.

He also delivered the welcome address.

The Organising Secretary of the programme, Prof Shagufta Aleem (Member advisory Board Ministry of AYUSH) assured to take up the issue for better treatment in the AYUSH advisory board with loud voice.

She requested other institutions and non-government organizations to move similar resolutions for the cause of the Unani Medical system at different fora.

The keynote speakers, Prof Naeem A Khan, Prof Mushtaq Ahmad and Dr M Khalid Siddiqui spoke on the positions for Unani Medicine experts in the National Commission of Indian Medicine (NCIM).

They voiced opinions for better representations of Unani practitioners across the country, equal treatment for proper utilization of resources, better formulation of policies and guidelines, an independent Board for Unani Medicine in NCIM, allowing Unani surgeons to perform surgeries, setting up an All India Institute of Unani Medicine, providing AKTC AMU with the status of a premier national institute based on the uniqueness of teaching and training facilities, having independent Directorates of Unani Medicine in each state, setting up CGHS Dispensaries in all state capitals and cities with Central Govt employees, filling up all vacant posts in Unani establishments including Ministry Secretariat, CGHS Dispensaries and Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine Drug Control mechanism and involving Unani Doctors in National Health Mission (NHM) and other Health schemes.

The conference resolution noted for the need of a suitable modification in the Recruitment Rules for D.Gs post providing chances to internal candidates.

Prof Shagufta Aleem extended the vote of thanks. Dr Mohammad Anas convened the symposium and Dr Mohammad Mohsin coordinated the program.
