A one-day seminar on “Waste Utilization in Cement and Concrete Industry” was jointly organized by KIIT School of Mechanical Engineering and KIIT School of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM), Ballabgarh, on 21st March 2022 in hybrid mode. The objective of the seminar was to develop a collaborative research work with NCCBM and KIIT Deemed to be University in the area of waste utilization.

In his presidential address, Prof. Saranjit Singh, Pro-Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU highlighted the importance and benefit of waste utilization. Prof. Jyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar called for initiating joint R&D on waste utilization for cement and concrete industry in Odisha. Dr. S. S. Gupta, Senior Development Officer, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India informed about the Government initiatives on implementation of circular economy in cement industries.  

Shri Ganesh Wamanrao Jirkuntwar, Senior Executive Director & National Manufacturing Head, Dalmia Cement (B) Ltd. emphasized waste utilization strategies adopted by various industries in Odisha along with R&D studies undertaken in cement and construction industry. Shri Didyendu Chakraborti, Scientist-F & Head, BIS Bhubaneswar discussed various standards practiced in Indian industries. Dr. Kalyani Mohanta, School of Mechanical Engineering proposed the vote of thanks at the inaugural session.
