The government launched the Study In India (SII) portal on Thursday, offering a one-stop solution for student registration and visa applications, aiming to position India as a global education hub and welcoming students from diverse backgrounds.

Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan jointly unveiled the portal, highlighting its significance in establishing India’s strong international presence in the education sector.

Jaishankar praised the portal’s integrated approach, providing a user-friendly application process for international students, from registration to visa approval. He emphasized that this streamlined process would facilitate students’ entire journey, enabling them to choose desired courses and receive offers from relevant institutions with ease.

He further pointed out that the presence of international students would be beneficial to domestic students, fostering closer connections to a globalized world and better preparing them for the international job market. Interaction with students from different countries would promote mutual understanding of cultures, habits, traditions, and perspectives.

The External Affairs Minister also highlighted that when these international students return to their home countries, they become goodwill ambassadors for India, thereby enhancing India’s global reputation.

Education Minister Pradhan noted that the portal aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, demonstrating the government’s commitment to position India as a preferred education destination and transcend academic boundaries.

According to Pradhan, the Study in India portal, guided by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, is a pivotal step towards making India an attractive destination for higher education worldwide.

The Study in India (SII) programme was initiated in 2018 by the education ministry as a flagship project to promote India as a premier education hub for international students. It encourages students from around the world to pursue higher education in India, tapping into the valuable educational opportunities offered by top Indian universities.

The portal, a dedicated website, provides comprehensive information about Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), covering a wide range of academic programs, including undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and doctoral level courses. It also highlights courses in Indian Knowledge Systems like Yoga, Ayurveda, and classical arts. The website offers insights into academic facilities, research support, and other relevant information to assist students in making informed decisions.
