Centre for Study & Research in Legislative Drafting (CSRLD), KIIT Law School (KLS) conducted a National Policy Formulation Competition on 9th – 10th April 2022. The competition sought to instill among the students of law as well as other fields the importance and understanding of legislative drafting and encouraged them to come up with innovative policies. The concept, being unique, attracted a large number of submissions on different themes by students from different law schools, out of which only 10 were selected for the competition.
Inaugurating the competition, Dr. Bhavani Prasad Panda, Director, KLS emphasized the novelty of the competition and importance of policy drafting. The selected participants made their presentations on various themes like compensation for human-elephant conflict in Eastern India, policy on soil conservation, crypto-currency, urban employment, etc. The presentations were followed by a question-answer session with the judges where various nuances of their policies were discussed.

Standing Counsel, Central Administrative Tribunal, Cuttack; Shri Bivas Chatterjee, Advocate & Special Public Prosecutor on Cyber Law & E-evidence, Govt. of West Bengal; Prof. Dr. Damodar Jena, KIIT School of Rural Management; and Ms. Diya Sarkar, Former Co-ordinator, CSRLD were judges for the competition.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr. S. Sivakumar, Indian Law Institute & Member, Law Commission of India. Sakshi Garg and Aarushi Tomar from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University stood first; Sriracha Rai Choudhury of Hidayatullah National Law University stood second, while the 3rd position was bagged by Ayush Bansal and Aishwarya of KLS.
