Aligarh, July 6: The work of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) faculty member, Prof Syed Moied Ahmed (Department of Anaesthesiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College-JNMC) has made way to the country’s biggest secondary board — the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Extracts from his research paper on ‘Compression-Only Life Support (COLS) for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation by Layperson outside the Hospital’ have made it to Class IX science syllabus of CBSE. A portion from his research paper with algorithms and diagrams now appears from page 91 to 94 of the Class IX science text book.

“The CBSE has revised the existing biology syllabus for class IX and decided to include my work on COLS to be taught as compulsory text in the course components,” said Prof Ahmed.

He added that the algorithm in the science book has his name written as the first author below the figure and also the names of other authors and the name of the journal from where it was taken.

“It is an important skill and every citizen must learn it including the school students. One never knows when the skill may come handy. For someone who is unconscious and suffering from cardio-pulmonary arrest, providing CPR could mean the difference between life and death,” stressed Prof Ahmed.

He added that this would ultimately contribute towards mitigation of the high mortality associated with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest by the virtue of increasing bystander CPR rates in the future.
