The Department of Chemistry, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organised a nine-day long Indo-US Webinar (June 1-2, 2021) & Lecture Series (June 3-9, 2021) on Advanced Functional Materials under the aegis of SPARC scheme of Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. The aim was to highlight the utilization of advanced functional nanomaterials to resolve the burning issues related to hydrogen/green/renewable energy and environmental remediation.

The aim was to highlight the utilization of advanced functional nanomaterials to resolve the burning issues related to hydrogen/green/renewable energy and environmental remediation.
The webinar which was inaugurated and presided over by Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI witnessed a mini galaxy of eminent scientists.The Vice Chancellor appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Chemistry to bring together renowned dignitaries as speakers in the webinar. She also praised efforts of faculty members for quality research and academic outputs.Scientific address was given by an extremely distinguished and renowned scientist Prof. D. D. Sarma, IISc Bangalore. He emphasized upon the need to adopt an interdisciplinary approach towards the design and development of Advanced Functional Materials.
The Convener, Prof. Tokeer Ahmad presented the Indo-US Webinar Report and introduced speakers.Prof. Nahid Nishat, Head, Department of Chemistry presented the welcome address, Prof. Seemi Farhat Basir, Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences presented the faculty remarks and Dr. Nazim Husain Al-Jafri, Registrar, JMI presented the administrative remarks about the structure and growth of the JMI.Prof. Sarbajit Banerjee from Texas A&M University and Prof. Yuanbing Mao from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, United States presented the collaborative remarks between their university and JMI.The formal vote of thank was presented by Co-convener, Dr. Ufana Riaz. The plenary lecture was given by notable scientist of the country Prof. D. D. Sarma and the 6 keynote lectures were delivered by eminent speakers Prof. A. K. Ganguli from IIT Delhi, Prof. Arun Chattopadhyay from IIT Guwahati, Prof. A.K. Tyagi from BARC Mumbai, Prof. K.V. Ramanujachary from Rowan University, Prof. Sarbajit Banerjee from Texas A&M University, Prof. Yuanbing Mao from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA.A total of 1540 participants including UG, PG & PhD students and faculty members registered for the Webinar and Lecture Series. Cisco-Webex virtual platform and YouTube Streaming were used to host the Webinar.
The valedictory address for the two-day webinar was given by Prof. A.K. Ganguli & Prof. K.V. Ramanujachary who congratulated the organizers for making the event a grand success. During the 7 day Lecture Series from 3rd-9th June,2021 foreign speakers including Prof. Sarbajit Banerjee and Prof. Yuanbing Mao will speak on various aspects of functional nanomaterials for device fabrication, energy generation and storage.
