Dr. Debasmita Patra appointed as Director of Evaluation and Assessment at University of Maryland Extension |

Dr. Debasmita Patra an alumnus of the University of Hyderabad has been appointed as the Director of Evaluation and Assessment at the University of Maryland Extension, Maryland, USA.

As the “Director of Evaluation and Assessment” for the University of Maryland Extension, Dr. Debasmita Patra will be responsible for the development of a comprehensive approach to the program development process for Extension. The approach will include developing competency focused enhancement of faculty skill sets in the areas of impact focused program planning, assessments, evaluation, survey design, and data interpretation within University of Maryland Extension (UME). The position will serve as a resource for UME to identify and communicate critical statewide and national priority areas and assist faculty with community needs assessment, and conducting program evaluation and applied research related to these priorities.

Dr. Debasmita Patra did her Masters (2001-2003), M. Phil. (2003-2004), and Ph.D. (2005-2008), all from the Department of Sociology, University of Hyderabad. Soon after her Ph.D., she accepted a Postdoctoral Associate position at Cornell Nanoscale Facility, Cornell University, New York and spent 3 years before moving to Maryland. She taught at Georgetown school of medicine and University of Maryland Global Campus before accepting an Assistant Research Professor position at the Dept. of Environmental Science and Technology.

Debasmita says, “I am indebted to the opportunity and thriving learning environment that UoH provided to me, My M.Phil. and PhD. Advisors Prof. E. Haribabu and Prof. Prajit K. Basu have mentored and trained, which got me this far.”
