The Counseling Cell of KIIT-DU in association with the Center for Intellectual Property Studies (CIPS) of KIIT Law School (KLS) organized a Guest Lecture on “Intellectual Property Protection in Cyberspace: An Interdisciplinary Perspective” on 2nd March 2022. The lecture was held virtually for the students of all the batches currently pursuing Law in KIIT. Ms. Nidhi Singh, an alumna of 2007- 2012 batch – the 1st batch LL.B from KLS, was the resource person for the Guest Lecture.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Bhavani Prasad Panda, Director, KLS explained the terms, proficiency, employment, skill and career and their significance for the students. He invited Ms. Singh to visit the campus and give her valuable suggestions to the Alma Mater. Prof. Sucheta Priyabadini, Director, Student Counseling, KIIT congratulated Ms. Singh on her achievements and wished her the very best in life. Prof. Prafulla Chandra Mishra, Dean, KLS and Prof. Sudipta De Sarkar also spoke at the session.
In her talk, Ms. Singh provided insight into some of the key concepts of ‘Intellectual Property in Cyberspace’. She discussed instances of infringement in this sphere and analyzed the steps to combat it. She dealt comprehensively with key copyright issues under which there was a discussion on linking of websites, software piracy and cyber-squatting. Trademark issues in Cyberspace like false domain names were also discussed along with some of the landmark cases in this regard. The address was followed by questions from the audience.
