Free Breakfast Scheme to be extended to all primary schools in Tamil Nadu

Following a successful pilot phase that saw improved attendance rates in 90% of the 1,545 participating schools, the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme is set to extend its reach to encompass all primary school students in government schools across Tamil Nadu. The expansion, anticipated to incur an expenditure of Rs 404 crore, marks a significant step forward in educational welfare.

The official inauguration of this noteworthy initiative will be undertaken by Chief Minister M K Stalin at a government middle school situated in Thirukkuvalai. This location holds special significance as it is the birthplace of the late former chief minister M Karunanidhi, father of the current Chief Minister. The inauguration is scheduled to take place around 8:15 am in the Nagapattinam district of the Cauvery Delta region.

Initially introduced in September 15, 2022, the ambitious Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme garnered praise from diverse sectors of society. It commenced its journey in 1,545 schools, rendering benefits to a substantial 1.14 lakh children. The resounding success of the pilot phase has paved the way for its expansion, indicating a promising future for the educational landscape in Tamil Nadu.
