New National Institute of Design to be set to meet needs of Industrial Designers

Four new National Institute of Design (NID) to be set to meet need of Industrial Designers. The institute will be set up in Assam, Andra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana so that more and more youngsters take up designing course.

The National Design Policy of 2011 is encouraging the creation of departments of design in all the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology ), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) as well as private colleges.

Under its objectives for the the year 2012, the policy is stressing on teaching of design in vocational, primary and secondary schools - under the theme "Designed in India, Made For the World" .

    National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad becomes 41st institute of national importance

    National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad was accorded the status of "institution of national importance" by an act of parliament. NID is now the 41st institute to have such a status. NID was established in 1965. With the new status NID will be will be authorised to give degrees and offer PhD's. NID is now entitled to receives special recognisition and funding from the government.

    National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad gets nod Union Cabinet

    The Union Cabinet approved the declaration of National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmadabad by Parliament by law as an "Institution of National Importance". This means, from now onwards, NID will be able to award degrees to its students directly. Students will benefit in general since the Institute is given freehand to professionalize, standardize and internationally benchmark professional design education in India.
