Kolkata biggest donor of books for poor

Kolkata has donated 1.5 lakh books for the “ Aviva Great Wall of Education” for helping the underprivileged children read books which they cannot afford to buy. Aviva carried the drive through out India for book collection but Kolkata was the biggest contributor.

The ‘Aviva Great Wall of Education’ placed donation boxes in 500 schools in – Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Ahmadabad, Cochin, Pune and Mumbai.

The books collected from donation will be distributed to deprived children for their education. The books which are not relevant will be recycled in to notebooks for children.

    Kapil Sibal, the Human Resource Minister, has assured that children with all kinds of disability will be provided free and compulsory education, either in school or at home, under the Right to Education Act. "Children with all kinds of disability will be protected under the Act," HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said, moving amendments to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 in the Lok Sabha. Children suffering from all kinds of disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy and mental retardation are covered under Right to Education Act

    Eros Foundation, a philanthropic wing of Eros international Media (EIML – A company in the Indian Film Entertainment Industry) join hands with NGO Pratham to provide good and quality education to underprivileged children in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Eros Foundation will provide training to village volunteers who will teach the children in the villages. The volunteers will not get any monetary benefit but they will get education in return. Education on english skills, job finding etc which will help them.

She conceptualized the idea of teaching underprivileged children a decade ago. She taught children in tents before adopting to the idea of School inside a bus. Reddy is herself a teacher since 25 years.
