About Ph.D.

  • A doctorate of philosophy, abbreviated as PhD, is a research based program. This mainly involves choosing a specialization and research on a said subject that leads to new knowledge or re-interpretation of existing theories or approaches. The aim of this program is to develop a thorough understanding of your field and its relevant methodologies, as well as showing your ability to evaluate existing norms critically and presenting them in a concise and clear way.
  • MIT-WPU thrives on a strong research culture that nurtures creativity and promotes investigation for a social benefit. The University believes in establishing support systems that boost morale and enhances a positive research culture. Research students are encouraged to contribute their research findings in referred journals and calendar conferences, filing patents, IPR and converting the research into product/prototype. To facilitate thinking, MIT–WPU has done research collaborations with various research organizations and industries.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility and selection process is as per UGC notification. Subject to the conditions stipulated in these regulations, the following persons are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme:

  1. Master’s Degree holders satisfying the criteria stipulated below

 (1.1)  Candidates for admission to the PhD programme shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country  or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.

(1.2) A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures. Reservation is applicable only to Maharashtra domicile candidates. Outside Maharashtra candidates will be considered in open category.

(2) Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and successfully completing the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph. D. Degree in the same Institution in an integrated programme. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time

  1. A person whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and the

viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. programme of

the same Institution;

(4) Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.

Selection Criteria

  1. MITWPU is looking for bright and dedicated scholars interested in research to join us as Ph.D. scholars for Academic Year. Prospective students satisfying the eligibility criterion are encouraged to apply for Ph.D. Programme on www.mitwpu.edu.in
  1. Candidates satisfying eligibility criterion will be informed to appear for the Ph.D. entrance test conducted by MITWPU as per the UGC guidelines. University may decide separate terms and conditions for PhD entrance test for those students who qualify UGC-NET ( Including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET ( including JRF)/SLET/GATE/Teacher fellowship holder or have passed M. Phil programme.
  1. PhD entrance test shall be qualifying with qualifying marks as 50% provided that relaxation from 50% to 45% shall be allowed for the candiadtes belongs to SC/ST/OBC ( Non creamy layer)/Differently abled category in the entrance examination conducted by the university

The syllabus of entrance test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific.

Reservation is applicable only to Maharashtra domicile candidates. Outside Maharashtra candidates will be considered in open category.

  1. The interview/viva-voce will be conducted by the university for test qualifying candidates. For selection of candidates a weightage of 70% to the entrance test and 30 % to the performance in the interview/Viva-voce shall be given
  2. Eligibility of a candidate is provisional as per information provided by the candidate in his/her application form and is subject to verification of minimum eligibility conditions for admission to the program.
  3. Provisional eligibility to appear in the selection process is no guarantee for admission to the program
