About

Physiotherapy is a profession that assesses, diagnoses, treats, and works to prevent disease and disability through physical activity. Physiotherapists are experts in movement who work with their patients, helping them to overcome movement disorders, which may be present since birth, acquired through accident or injury, or are the result of ageing.

Physiotherapist use their knowledge and skills to improve a range of conditions associated with different systems of the body, such as: Neurological, Neuro musculoskeletal, Cardiovascular and Respiratory.

Common treatment methods physiotherapists may use are: exercise programs, joint manipulation and mobilisation to reduce pain, muscle re-education, breathing exercises, soft tissue mobilisation, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, assistance with use of following - aids, splints, crutches, walking sticks and wheelchairs.
Physiotherapists work in public hospitals, private practice, rehabilitation centres, sporting clubs, community health centres.
