Nirmalagiri College, situated at the 'Hill of the Immaculate' ever remains a 'Crest Jewel' among the higher education institutions in the State of Kerala. Arrayed in the credit of accreditation with B++ grade by the NAAC in 2004, the college projects itself as a center for information, formation and transformation of 'shining morning faces'! Right from its inception in 1964 by the great visionary Mar Sebastian Valloppilly, the premier Bishop of the Arch Diocese of Thalassery the college has always succeeded in remaining faithful to its mission and vision. Sheltered in the patronage of Mar George Valiamattom, the Arch Bishop of Thalassery Arch Diocese, duly guided by the Management, substantially assisted by the Alumni and the PTA, and well supported by the committed staff, this college now endeavors to stride towards new shores of excellence, to shower never ending graces of 'Jnana Vijnana' upon the future generation of India.

Nirmalagiri College,a minority institution belonging to the Archdiocese of Thalassery, was established on 13th May-1964 by H.E.Rt.Rev.Dr.Sebastian Valloppilly, the founder Bishop of Thalassery Diocese. The college is situated at a place formerly know as Kandamkunnu, now Nirmalagiri, 20kms north east of Thalassery, alongside the Thalassery-Mysore inter-state highway. The founding of the college was in tune with the vision and objectives spelt out in the Memorandum of Association of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Thalassery registered as S.No 12 of 1954 under Societies Registration Act (Act XXI of 1860 ) dated 04-11-1954

Since 1940 there occurred a substantial migration from Travancore to Malabar and the post-Second World War economic scenario hastened the exodus. The new migrant community, most of them Christians, spread over the entire region of South and North Malabar, though pioneer of an agrarian revolution, was deprived of basic and higher educational facilities. Even in the midst of blood, sweat and tears, the migrant population craved for educational institutions. It was at that historic juncture that Rt.Rev.Dr.Sebastian Valloppilly, a dynamic missionary and a motivated visionary, a true Gandhian and a freedom fighter,bravely came forward to establish the college. The main objective of Nirmalagiri College, the lamp lit on the mountain, was to radiate the light of knowledge and wisdom primarily to the children of the migrant Christian population, as the college was the only Christian higher education center in the whole of North Malabar, spread over the districts of Kannur, Kasargod and Waynad
The college started functioning as a junior college in 1964 under the Kerala University with 397 students, 11 teachers and 5 administrative staff members. The founder Principal was Dr.Antony Kurialacherry, who later became the Principal of S.B. College, Changanasserry. Satisfied with the maiden performance of the first batch of students who secured the first position in Kerala University in 1966, the University permitted the college to go ahead with degree courses in 1967. Our affiliation got shifted to the Calicut University when it came into existence in 1996.

Nirmalagiri College, Nirmalagiri, Kuthuparamba is the sole “sanctum sanctorum” of higher education managed by the Arch Diocese of Thalasserry. The inception of this prestigious institution was the realization of a long cherished wish and dream of its founder patron, Mar Sebastian Valloppilly, the first bishop of Thalasserry.
Though Nirmalagiri College is established to impart higher education mainly to the catholic youth of Malabar region, it serves the people at large with out distinction of caste or community and thus it keeps up heterogeneous nature always. 13th July, 1964 remains a milestone on the pages of its history as it marked the official commencement of the courses under the Kerala University, the only University of the state at that time .when the university of Calicut came in to existence the college remained a member college of it and now it stands affiliated to the Kannur University.
The college is hading towards with its mission under the loving patronage of Mar George Valiyamattam, the Arch Bishop of Thalasserry and is sagaciously guided by Msgr. Mathew M. Chalil, the present manager. Fr. Geo Pulickal (P.J.George) is the present Principal and Fr. Mathew Kayammakkal is the Bursar. This College is having fourteen faculties and it offers under graduate courses in ten disciplines and post graduate courses in two disciplines. Computer Training Section The computer training wing of Nirmalagiri college, started in 1991 offers various job oriented international certification courses such as MCSD, MCSE, CCNA, A+, Linux, Software and Hardware engineering. The center is authorized to conduct international certification examinations.
