M.Sc. in Biotechnology
M.Sc in Biotechnology is being offered by Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at JUIT. The Department has 20 labs equipped with major equipment e.g. LC-MS, Q-TOF, 2-D
Electrophoresis, genome sequencer, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, bioreactors, animal and plant cell cultures labs, pulsed field electrophoresis, gene pulsar, gene gun, LP system, preparative HPLC, GC-MS, fluorescent microscope, high end servers and workstations. The R&D infrastructure has been strengthened through external funding worth Rs. 22.0 crores from different Ministries of the Govt. of India, including prestigious DBT Program support under Centers of Excellence & Innovation in Biotechnology, DBT-RGYI, DST-FIST, DST Indo-Russian, DRDO, MoEFCC, and ICMR. The students are provided opportunity to take up research in diverse areas such as metabolic engineering of microbial and plant systems, bioprocess engineering, molecular biology of infectious diseases, diagnostics and vaccine manufacturing, industrial enzymes and protein engineering, plant
cell culture technologies, bioremediation, biofuels, food technology & probiotics, biosynthetic pathway discovery and gene function, genomic, proteomic and metabolomic technologies, medical informatics, protein modeling, computational genomics, metabolic networks, systems biology, etc. For more information about Department click here
M.Sc. in Microbiology
M.Sc. in Microbiology is a full-time credit-based 2-years program run by the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. The curriculum has been designed with a balanced mix of basic and advanced theory and practical courses with the aim to keep students abreast of the latest advances in the field. The course encompasses various booming fields within the domain, focusing
on microbiology in medicine and pharmacy, agriculture, food and dairy industry, environmental and nanotechnology, emphasizing on the latest advances in the field. Core and optional subjects in
various fields of microbiology and allied areas such as Microbial Genetics and Molecular Biology, Environmental Microbiology, Enzymes & Bioprocess Technology, Medical Microbiology, Food &
Dairy Microbiology, Recombinant DNA Technology, Bioinformatics & Omics, Vaccine Biology, Probiotics & Prebiotics, Microbial Technology, Metagenomics and Microbiomics provide in-depth
knowledge. The course offers an optimum blend of theory, labs and dissertation/hands on project work, realizing the importance of transposing theoretical knowledge into practical implementation. The intention is to open various avenues for our graduates, preparing them for diverse career opportunities in hospitals, diagnostics, Pharma and Biopharma R&D’s, Clinical laboratories, Food Industry, Food Safety, and Quality Control, as well as in core Microbiology industries. The final semester provides the base to hone their research skill in dissertation work and present their research findings. Eligibility Criteria
Passed/Appeared* Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Physical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences,
Computer Sciences, Medicine (MBBS) or B.D.S, Pharmacy, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences or any other degree recognized
equivalent there to by the University with at least 45% marks aggregate/equivalent CGPA (for SC/ST), 50% marks aggregate/equivalent CGPA (for other categories)
Number of seats
The number of seats for each M. Sc Programs is limited to 30 except M.Sc. (Biotechnology) which is limited to 20 seats, 10 seats of M.Sc.(BT) is supported by DBT and admission is through GATB qualified rank in order of merit.
Application fee
Application fee of Rs. 500/- is applicable for both online/application form purchased from JUIT Waknaghat.
Fee Structure
| Tuition Fee | The tuition fee shall be Rs. 37,500/- per semester for first year and Rs. 40,500/-per semester for the second year. |
| Hostel Charges | Limited seats are available in the hostels. Hostel seats will be allotted on first come first served basis. The Hostel charges are Rs. 80000/- per semester. |
