Eligibility Criteria
- Admission into Ph. D. at Jadavpur University, candidates should have passed Master degree/ Professional Degree in relevant subject with at least 55% (50% for SC/ ST/ OBC Non-Creamy Layer Categories) marks.
- The application for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program must be submitted to the Registrar using the prescribed form.
- An applicant must hold a Master’s degree of at least two years (or 4-Semester) duration in any discipline, or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree (such as MBBS with Master’s Degree, MBA, MCA, MD) by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed, such as a grade point of 6.25 in a 10-point scale for Master’s in Engineering/ Technology/ Pharmacy/ Architecture/ Computer Application as per AICTE norms), or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
- A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC/AICTE/State Government from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991.
- The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
- An applicant who has obtained a Post-graduate Diploma/Degree of less than two years’ duration from any University or Institution recognized by this University is eligible for application for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program provided that such candidate has completed at least a total of five years’ of graduate and postgraduate study in a recognized university or Institution.

Registration Fees
Registration Fees (as mentioned hereunder) must be paid (in full or the first installment) on the date of admission AFTER verification/ submission of all documents as mentioned above.
Receipt of the registration fee paid must be submitted on the same day.
(a) For Full-time Registered Scholars of Jadavpur University: Rs. 14,000/- .
(b) For Registered Scholars of Jadavpur University who are in full/part time employment anywhere/elsewhere or are registered through affiliated institutes: Rs.22,000/- The fee must be paid either in full or in three installments as follows: Rs 5000/- for (a) and Rs. 8000/- for (b) at the time of registering to the Ph.D. (Arts) programme; Rs 5000/- for (a) and Rs. 8000/- for (b) within six months from the date of first installment is paid; and Rs 4000/- for (a) and Rs.6000/- for (b) within one-year from the date of first installment is paid.
Application Process
- Candidates are required to submit their applications using the prescribed form available on the website www.jaduniv.edu.in.
- The application fee of Rs. 500/- (Per Subject) must be paid online through the SBI Collect System using Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net Banking.
- After making the payment, candidates need to download the form and submit it along with the online payment receipt and all required testimonials to the Ph.D. Cell, Arts, Subarna Jayanti Bhavan, Ground floor, Jadavpur University Main campus, Kolkata 700032.
Selection Process
- Candidates will undergo a selection process consisting of a written test lasting two hours (two and a half hours for Economics) and an interview conducted by the respective Departments.
- Candidates holding an M.Phil (Regular two-year course) degree and those admitted to the M.Phil program through a written test, or those who have qualified NET/SET/GATE, will be exempted from the written admission test and will be directly called for an interview.
