ITM was set up by HIRA Charitable Trust (HCT) in 2002 to facilitate educational upliftment of students of North Kerala. The Chairman of the Trust is Mr. K.T Sharafuddin, an industrialist of repute. The other members of the trust are basically retired government servants, teachers and social workers who are committed to serve the cause of higher education. Besides ITM, the trust is running an Arts & Science College under Kannur University, Teachers Training Institute under NCTE and a CBSE Public School separately in Mayyil.
