Haryana State Council for Science & Technology (HSCST) is an autonomous body, a registered society, under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The Council was constituted to advise the State Govt. on policies and measures for promoting Science & Technology (S&T) in the State and to implement the policies & plans of the State Govt. more effectively and to utilize the funds received from various Central & State Govt. Agencies.
HSCST is conducting Science Popularisation programmes, for students of the state on an annual basis. This programme includes State level Science quiz contests in which the entire state is being covered starting from the district level, then zonal level and State level finals. The essay writing Competition is being held for both college and school students. Essays from the entire state are invited, evaluated and then interviews are held. Very attractive prizes are being distributed every year to the winning students at a state-level function held at the end of the contests.
HSCST has set up a Centre for Research and Application in Plant Tissue Culture (CRAPTC)in Ch. Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCS HAU), Hisar.
HSCST has formulated the Biotechnology Policy of the State of Haryana to promote biotechnology in general and industry in particular. A proposal for setting up Bio-Tech Park is also under consideration.
