Gitam University PhD Admission: Gitam University is inviting applications from eligible candidates for admission to Full-Time/Part-Time PhD Programs in Engineering, Science, Pharmacy, Law, Management, and Humanities and Social Sciences for the academic year 2024. The admissions are open at the Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru Campuses.

Program Duration

  • The Ph.D. (Full-Time) program is designed for a minimum duration of three years (with an exception of two years for M.Phil. Degree holders) and a maximum of six years.
  • The Ph.D. (Part-Time) program requires a minimum commitment of four years (with an exception of three years for M.Phil. Degree holders) and a maximum duration of eight years.
  • Part-time candidates are obligated to engage in work for at least eight weeks, distributed across one or more spells each year, which includes the period of coursework in the relevant department.

  • Interview of Qualified Candidates: December 26th, 2023, to January 5th, 2024
  • Final Admission Results (Tentative): January 12th, 2024
  • Open Research Colloquium & Selection of Ph.D. Supervisors by Scholars: January 23rd to January 29th, 2024
  • Reporting to the Campus for Document Verification: January 30th & January 31st, 2024
  • Pre-PhD Coursework Classes: February 1st, 2024
  • Last Date for Admission Cancellation: February 15th, 2024

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates applying for admission to the Ph.D. program have the option to pursue research either on a Full-Time or Part-Time basis, depending on the eligibility criteria outlined below:

Educational Qualification:

Candidates must have obtained a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade of B in the UGC 7-point scale or the scale used by the respective institutions. However, there is a relaxation of 5% marks or an equivalent grade for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled categories.

Service Requirements for Part-Time Candidates:

  1. Teachers in PG Departments:
    • Minimum one year of service.
  2. Teachers in Degree or Professional Colleges:
    • Minimum two years of service.
  3. Teachers in Recognized Junior Colleges (for M.Phil. admission):
    • Minimum three years of service.
  4. Teachers in Recognized Junior Colleges (for Ph.D. admission):
    • Minimum four years of service.
  5. Executives/Administrators/Engineers/Scientists:
    • Minimum three years of service in Government/Quasi-Government/Judiciary/Public sector organizations/Public and Private limited companies, and other organizations approved by the Board of Research Studies (BRS).
  6. Other Employees (not covered in the above clauses):
    • Minimum four years of service, as approved by the Board of Research Studies (BRS).

Application Process:

Candidates are required to complete the online application process at https://researchadmissions.gitam.edu#register-form-link, accompanied by a non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 1000/- (One Thousand Rupees only). The payment can be made through Debit card, Credit card (Master/VISA), Net Banking, or UPI.

Before filling out the application, candidates must ensure they meet the eligibility criteria. During the online application, candidates are also required to upload copies of the following certificates:

  1. Date of Birth certificate (SSC/Matriculation or equivalent).
  2. Marks statements for Graduate, Postgraduate/M.Phil., and relevant Degree or Provisional certificate.
  3. Valid scores for NET/ICMR/GATE/GPAT/SLET, if applicable.
  4. For part-time candidates, a Service certificate and a “No objection” certificate from the current employer are mandatory.

It is important to note that the University will not assume any responsibility for non-receipt of applications.

Selection Process:

Admission shall be based on the marks secured in the Online Entrance Test and Interview, subject to the fulfillment of the eligibility criteria and the rules of reservation.

Details of the Entrance Test

  • The syllabus for the entrance test is available for download at https://www.gitam.edu/research-programs/.
  • The test covers 50% Research Methodology and 50% on the specific subject.
  • The duration of the test is two hours, comprising objective-type questions.
  • The online test carries a maximum of 140 marks (70 for Research Methodology and 70 for the specific subject). Additionally, there will be a 60-mark interview. Candidates must secure a minimum of 50% marks in the online test to be eligible for the interview. However, a relaxation of 5% marks (from 50% to 45%) is permitted for candidates in the SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled category.
  • The merit position for M.Phil./Ph.D. admission is determined by the total marks obtained in the online test and interview.
  • Admission is contingent on merit and seat availability. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee admission. The University upholds a non-discriminatory policy based on gender, race, religion, disability, or nationality.
