Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the PhD program should meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Completion of a 1-year/2-semester master’s degree program after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree program after a 3-year bachelor’s degree program.
  2. Qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body.
  3. Attainment of at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade, or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency recognized by the relevant authority.
  4. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories as per the decision of the Commission.
  5. Candidates seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.
  6. Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. program with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade are also eligible for admission, with a relaxation of 5% marks for eligible categories.

Application Process

The application forms will be available exclusively in online mode on the University Website http://www.ipu.ac.in. The last date of application may be extended for any program or program group for which a common entrance test is to be conducted by the University. Candidates will not receive separate intimation regarding the declaration of results and commencement of interview/admission. The final merit list will be published on the University Website http://www.ipu.ac.in.

Submission of Application Form:

  1. All candidates, whether exempted or not as per point 3.2 above, must apply online for admission to the Ph.D. program by filling out the online application form available on the University website http://www.ipu.ac.in. The application fee will be notified by the Examination Branch.
  2. Appearing in the Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) is mandatory for all non-exempted applicants (refer to Point 3.2 above). However, admit cards will be issued to all applicants, including exempted ones (refer to Point 3.2 above).
  3. All applicants must download the admit card from the link used for filling up the application form using their respective login ID and password. Exempted applicants from the Ph.D. Entrance Test should retain the admit card and present it at the time of the interview. Candidates are advised to take and retain a printout of the duly filled-in application form.
  4. Candidates must read all the important instructions before filling up the Application Form.
  5. A detailed procedure for filling up the application form is available on the University website http://www.ipu.ac.in under the link “Procedure to fill online application forms.”
  6. In the online application form, candidates should choose the “Exam Category” as “Ph.D.” and enter their relevant details. They should also upload a recent clear photograph of the specified size along with their scanned signature and left thumb impression.
  7. The relevant course for the Ph.D. Entrance Test PET should be selected, and payment of the requisite application fee, as notified by the Examination branch, must be made online.

Application Fee:

The application fee will be notified by the Examination Branch. Previously, the application fee was Rs. 1200/-.

Admission Procedure:

Admission to the Ph.D. program in various University Schools of Study and Centres of Excellence will be through a Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) conducted by the University or any designated agency in the relevant disciplines. The PET will be conducted online (CBT) or offline on OMR Sheet based upon MCQs. The mode of examination will be notified later on the University website by the Examination Branch. The written entrance test will be qualifying, with 50% of total marks as the qualifying cut off for the general category and 45% for SC/ST/PWD/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS category. An interview/viva-voce will be organized where candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area before a Ph.D. Admission Committee. The admission will be based on the performance/merit of the candidate in the interview/viva-voce.

Exam Pattern:

Candidates exempted from the entrance test conducted by the University must apply for admission by filling up the online application form available on the University website. Such candidates need to submit relevant documents in support of their claim for exemption. A list of exempted candidates will be displayed on the University website at least one week prior to the PET date.

Reservations:

Reservation will be as per the State Reservation Policy notified by the University. The admission to Ph.D. programs will be done on an All-India basis. Reservation percentages are as follows: SC (15%), ST (7.5%), EWS (10%), PwD (5% horizontal).

Employed Candidates:

Employed candidates, including permanent faculty members of the University Schools or affiliated colleges/institutions, seeking Ph.D. admission as full-time research scholars, must obtain leave for a minimum of three years. They must obtain a “No Objection Certificate” for pursuing the Ph.D. program.

Research Projects Candidates in GGSIP University: Personnel working in research projects in GGSIP University can pursue full-time Ph.D. subject to fulfilling eligibility conditions. They must submit a “No Objection Certificate” from the respective Principal Investigator of the research project.

Admit Card:

Admit cards will be available online or through email, on or before 3 days of the PET date. Applicants are advised to keep their login details secure.
