Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS), Tirupati PhD Programme
Eligibility
Candidates with MD/MS, DM/ M.Ch or M.Sc. (Medical) degree (3 years course) in Human Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology and Microbiology from SVIMS or any other University recognized by the UGC are eligible to register for Ph.D. course under the Faculty of Medicine.
Candidates with an M.Sc. degree (non-medical) in Biotechnology or Bioinformatics or any of the other Life Sciences subjects & Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) recognized by Veterinary Council of India are eligible to register for Ph.D. course under the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.
Candidates with a Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) degree awarded by this University or any other University recognized by the UGC are eligible to register for Ph.D. course under the Faculty of Physiotherapy.
Candidates with M.Sc. Nursing or any equivalent postgraduate degree in Nursing offered by an Institution recognized by Indian Nursing Council with a minimum of 60% marks during post graduation with 3 years teaching or clinical experience after their M.Sc.(Nursing) or candidates possessing MPhil (Nursing) are eligible to register for Ph.D. course under the Faculty of Nursing.
Candidates with M.Sc. or MPT must have scored a minimum of 55% in aggregate (excluding any grace marks). However, a relaxation of 5% marks from 55% to 50% is allowed to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled candidates.
Postgraduate degrees awarded by distance education will not be considered.
Age at admission: For admission to full time Ph.D. as regular candidates, the age of the candidate should be below 45 years as on 01-07-2023.
A JRF/SRF working in a project funded by the Institute or any other extramural funding agency and teaching faculty working on ad-hoc basis or on daily wage / contract basis at SVIMS can apply for full time registration in a PhD programme. They will be allowed to continue their assignment only if they get provisional registration in the same department where they are working subject to:
- Production of a concurrence certificate from the Principal Investigator/Head of the Department (Form A)
- An undertaking that he/she will not claim any extension of the tenure of the post or any other benefit whatsoever, linking the claim to his/her registration and pursuance of PhD program (Form B)
Regular employees of this university who are approved probationers can apply for registration in a PhD programme under part-time category provided that:
- The candidate is a regular teaching employee and is an approved probationer.
- The candidate applies to register in the same department where employed.
- The candidate fulfills all the eligibility criteria of a regular full time candidate.
- Submits Form C (NOC) along with application from the Head of the Department in the prescribed format.
- The employee enters into an agreement with the institute that she/he will continue to work in SVIMS for a minimum period of 3 years after the award of PhD.
There is no provision of part-time research for external candidates.
There is no provision to register for Ph.D. as Self Guide.
Application Fee
Rs.5,900/- drawn from a Nationalized Bank in favour of the Director, SVIMS, Tirupati.

- PG Degree/Provisional pass certificate
- PG marks statement
- Caste Certificate in case of SC/ST/OBC candidates. OBC candidates must additionally provide evidence of being in the non-creamy layer if they wish to avail relaxation in marks criteria for eligibility or marks criteria for pass in the entrance examination.
- Differently abled (disability) certificate if applicable
- Study certificates from Inter to Post Graduation. Proof of having studied PG on regular basis
- Copy of certificate of having qualified for JRF via UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR-NET if applicable. The period of validity of the certificate for award of JRF should not have expired by the date of closure of admission i.e 30.11.2023
- All work experience certificates for candidates applying under faculty of Nursing to pursue Ph.D. under Nursing Departments.
- PWD certificate (if claiming PWD status)
